The Building & Development Services Division aims to provide excellent public service every day by creating and regulating policies that encourage planned growth and economic development and ensuring safety of citizens by enforcement of the North Carolina Building Code.Examples of Duties

The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.

Data entry in GIS, create reports, produce maps - planning, developing, analyzing, and performing quality control functions into geographic related databases in support of the County GIS.Provide GIS support to all planning and zoning staff.Naming and renaming of streets for the assignment and notification of property addresses. Maintain GIS address points, centerline data, E-911 address ranges, directional routing, conducting field work for address verification, approving and reserving street names, and verifying the placement of street sign markers within the County's jurisdiction.Assist the public and other governmental agencies in obtaining data and/or maps/ Create PDF maps and notifications and shared map portal, create PDF maps for archiving changes in the data layers for maintenance.Any other work as assigned by immediate supervisor and the Department Director.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Geography, Planning, Computer Science or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

At least two years in a GIS database management or related position.

Special knowledge, abilities, skills, physical requirements, and other factors:

Candidates should possess a knowledge of GIS data processing principles, tools and techniques. Possesses skills and abilities using ESRI ArcGIS software products and their applications in a project environment. Knowledge of E-911 addressing, ESRI software, cartography, map design and spatial analysis is required. Proficient in the following applications: Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Professional Applications. Must be able to communicate effectively with other jurisdictions, agencies, departments, elected officials, and the general public. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.

Additional Information

Minimally qualified applicants will start at 25% of the salary range: $27.89/hr.

The applicant selected must undergo a criminal background check and pass a drug screening test prior to employment
