Position Summary

The Director of Business Development is capable of identifying, pursuing and winning strategic and tactical new business opportunities. This individual oversees the complete pitch process, agency prospecting initiatives and written materials. S(he) leverages their current depth of knowledge of digital and offline marketing, and technology, along with a swiftly acquired knowledge of agency history, case studies, current business, and strategic direction.

Responsibilities:

Overall, to manage all new business activity, participating wherever appropriate in the planning, implementation, and follow-up of such activity. More specifically, to be involved in the following areas:

Information Gathering

Demonstrates a contagious passion for the business and an insatiable curiosity to stay on top of trends, innovations and news shaping our industry.

Present strong understanding of the marketing function, including what drives CMO/Director-level decisions, and has experience leveraging business imperatives into a compelling agency story and win strategy.

Direct Lead Generation

Direct cold solicitation against specific targets/industries as part of our growth strategy.

“Opportunistic” solicitation (cold contacting based on industry tips, leads, etc.)

Partners closely with cross-network leadership to develop an annual prospecting list and develop a plan to activate exciting, new partnerships and respond to timely prospecting signals.

Manages a high-functioning Business Development team, setting a high executional bar and activating the team to solve and elevate issues on the horizon.

Leads the development, and often writes, prospecting, marketing, case study and proposal materials – refreshing as needed to make sure most exciting and relevant story/work is utilized.

Pitch Process

Contributes to the agency pitch process from start-to-finish, identifying opportunities, elevating our output, and acting as a resource for the broader agency team as they manage the process.

Uses historical knowledge and new insights to write and sell the agency’s unique value proposition.

New business pitch presentation showmanship – can act as the new business lead in the room.

Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Demonstrated interpersonal skills in complex and challenging timeline driven environments.

Strong writing skills.

Wins the admiration, transparency, and support from others – clients, consultants and cross-functional agency team included.

Thrives in fast-paced, high-pressure situations with a competitive fire, big-thinking skills, and commitment to achieving results.

Proven project, pitch, and meeting management skills through strong attention to detail across multiple workstreams.

Highly organized, attention to detail, and strong follow-throughs.

HubSpot CRM experience at plus.

Education & Experience:

5+ years’ experience in sales, ideally in business development, client services/account management, operations/project management, strategy, healthcare, employee benefits or healthcare technology.

Working Conditions:

The majority of work is completed in an office setting with intermittent sitting, standing and walking.

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Travel to visit clients or conferences a possibility.

Standard office hours for the business are Monday through Thursday 8:00 am to 5:30 pm EST and Friday 8:00 am to 12:00 pm EST.

Office based employees are expected to work 4 days in office and may work from home one day a week after 3 months of employment.

Remote based employees may have intermittent travel to the Augusta office location based on business need.
