Essential Function

Under general direction, serves as a Unix/Linux Administrator for the Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT).

Provides technical assistance to clients and technicians pertaining to software and operating systems.

Performs problem diagnostics of software and operating system problems.

Participates on projects as a team member for assignments in relationship to the infrastructure being supported.

Keeps abreast of new developments in the Information Technology (IT) field.

Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to four (4) years of college with course work in computer science or directly related fields.Requires one (1) year of professional experience in Systems Services or a related Information Technology field.

Specialized Skills

Requires one (1) year of professional experience in client server installation, administration, or providing infrastructure software support in a large-scale, n-tier, enterprise level infrastructure.

Preferred Qualifications

One (1) year of professional experience in client server installation, administration, or providing infrastructure software support in a large-scale, n-tier, enterprise level infrastructure.One (1) year of professional experience in the configuration, installation or support of IBM AIX and SUSE Linux operating systems, IBM WebSphere, current Windows Server OS, Adobe AEM, IBM Tivoli and Entrust/True pass and access control software, or IBM ISAM appliance.One (1) year of professional experience supporting DB2, Oracle databasesOne (1) year of professional experience with TCP/IP, Enterprise networks, VPN, or LDAP Access methods.Working knowledge of the methods, procedures, and techniques of conducting feasibility studies for system conversions and enhancements.Ability to coordinate projects including assigning project tasks to work associates to achieve desired results.Ability to analyze data logically and exercise sound judgment in defining and evaluating problems of an operational or procedural nature.Developed verbal and written communications skills to present technical information to others with clarity and precision.
