Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code §87815, any required adjustment will be made within the first pay period. While the current vacancy is at Mesa College, applicants should understand that they are subject to assignment at any District facility at the option of the Chancellor.Major ResponsibilitiesThe Assistant Professor, Chicana and Chicano Studies, will report to the Dean of Social/Behavioral Sciences and Multicultural Studies. Primary responsibility for this position will be the teaching Introductory Chicana/o Studies courses and other courses in the discipline. Additional responsibilities of Mesa College tenured/tenure track faculty include maintaining regular office hours for student advisement, curriculum review and development, serving on College and District committees, and participating in various departmental, school, and college activities.QualificationsMaster’s degree in Chicano Studies; OR,Ethnic Studies; ORThe equivalent,Desired QualificationsThe successful candidate should demonstrate evidence of:Subject matter competency in Chicana and Chicano Studies or Ethnic Studies with an emphasis in Social Sciences.Completion of appropriate graduate level coursework in Chicana and Chicano Studies or Ethnic Studies.Recent teaching experience in experience in Chicana and Chicano Studies at the undergraduate college level and the ability to fairly and effectively evaluate student performance.Ability to teach effectively by demonstrating a working knowledge of varied learning styles, modalities, and teaching techniques.Experience with curriculum development, review, and/or implementation.Experience in instructional leadership activities such as program review, scheduling, assessment, and evaluations.Experience establishing partnerships and community relationships.Knowledge and understanding of critical issues facing the Chicanx community.Effective oral communication and writing ability.Participation in ongoing professional activities in Chicana and Chicano Studies.Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships across the college and District community.Equivalency
