The Position

The Technology Support Specialist partners with the Director of Technology to ensure the smooth operation of the school’s full technology program, providing direct technical support to students, faculty, and staff. The Technology Office is responsible for all client machines, peripherals, loaner equipment, audio/visual equipment, phones, copiers, servers, networking, and backup and recovery. The Department also implements technology-related programs in line with the school’s mission and ensures on and offsite connectivity employing multiple platforms. The Girls’ Middle School has a 1:1 Mac laptop program for students that the successful candidate will implement. This is a full-time, 12-month position reporting to the Director of Technology.

Duties and Responsibilities

Serve as the primary, daily, in-person technical support for the Student Help Desk.

Provide technical support to all end-users (including faculty and staff).

Ensure proper operation of laptops, peripherals, and software/drivers.

Troubleshoot and diagnose hardware, software, and connectivity issues. Return equipment to service.

Maintain JAMF Mobile Device Management (MDM) and documentation; oversee JAMF install process during summer upgrades.

Working with the Director of Technology, maintain and/or support multiple aspects of database installation, integration, maintenance, support, and data workflow (including Ravenna Admit, Veracross, BigSIS, FileMaker Pro, Follett, School Messenger, Magnus Health).

Support the Director of Technology, including training, documentation, and equipment setup/takedown.

Maintain current inventory of laptops and peripherals.

Stay abreast of emerging technology and edtech tools to help students, faculty, and staff incorporate technology into curriculum and instruction.

Collaborate with the Assistant Head to support integration of educational technology.

Help train faculty, staff, and students on the use of hardware and digital tools.

Provide support to teachers and staff to reach required technology expectations.

Help ensure a timely and accurate delivery of technology products, services, and training.

Other duties as assigned by the Director of Technology.

Skills and Abilities

Experience with a range of software and operating systems in an education environment, including MacOS, Google Works for Education, Google Admin, Windows, Microsoft Office, iOS, and emerging technologies.

Experience with database administration.

Excellent communication, customer service, and collaboration skills.

Prior work in schools is a strong plus.

Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Detail-oriented management of multiple projects and day-to-day tasks.

Ability to work well both independently and as a member of a team.

Sense of humor, flexibility, calm under pressure, openness to new ideas, initiative, and resourcefulness.

Ability to lift/move 40 pounds and to reach, bend, stoop, sit, and kneel.

Available to work the 8:00 am to 4:30 pm schedule.

Education and/or Experience

Associate’s degree in Information Technology or related field or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.

Apple Certified (ACMT) or willingness to be certified.

Compensation and Benefits:

GMS offers a comprehensive benefits package, including full medical, dental, vision, and life, and disability insurance. Access to engaging and personalized professional development. The Girls’ Middle School uses a competitive salary scale. The salary range for this position is $70,000 - 75,000, commensurate with experience.
