DescriptionThe Role:

BigHat Biosciences is seeking an exceptional and motivated Scientist I/II* with a strong background in molecular biology, cloning and protein engineering to support the production and characterization of our lead therapeutic candidates.

This role reports to the Director of Protein Sciences, works closely with other senior leaders and cross functional team members. This function is primarily a lab based role, and will have a broad impact and visibility across BigHat.

Key ResponsibilitiesEstablish robust workflows for plasmid design and construction with an ultimate goal towards building reliable automated cloning methods in collaboration with BigHat automation engineers

Optimize plasmid engineering workflows to reduce turnaround time, increase scale and improve efficiency to support BigHat's growing set of therapeutic programs

Envision creative methods to simultaneously clone multiple chains and enable production of various therapeutic modalities at

L scales

Assist with antibody expression in mammalian cells such as CHO and 293 cells as needed

Contribute to the advancement of BigHat platform by continuous exploration and implementation of innovative technologies

Clearly communicate progress and challenges to all stakeholders in diverse groups such as automation, production, data sciences and engineering

About YouPh.D in Protein Engineering, Molecular Biology or a related field and at least two years of hands-on working experience post PhD OR Master’s degree with 7+ years of industry experience related to protein engineering

Strong experience with molecular cloning techniques including primer design, PCR, mutagenesis, and homology based cloning

Must have some experience with antibody engineering

Deep understanding of characteristics of various antibody and antibody like fragments and modalities such as IgG, scFv, VHH, bispecific T-cell engagers, etc., and methods to generate the same

Demonstrate excellent attention to detail, have positive attitude and be willing to learn new technologies and concepts

Ability to work effectively on multiple projects at any given time, each consisting of different modalities and different deliverables

Excellent communication and documentation skills, ability to build interpersonal relationships and work effectively with people with diverse experiences
