Project Reflect seeks a Pre-K Director

to be responsible for the management, administration, and growth of the Project Reflect Preschool to ensure an environment that allows children, their families, and the staff to develop to their full potential. Serving children from three years of age through five years of age, the preschool's mission is to develop within each child a vibrant mind, a healthy body, and a caring heart while building a collaborative, supportive community among our families.

As an early childhood educator, you are responsible for providing safe and developmentally appropriate programs that are aligned with all relevant federal and state initiatives. You will create lesson plans, administer praise and constructive criticism, instruct staff and students on subjects such as science, literature, and math, and create a well-rounded, comprehensive instructional program. Your job duties will include but are not limited to:

Administer and monitor the operation of the Preschool in keeping with the school’s mission, philosophy, and policy. Work with the Program Director to develop and maintain a high-quality early childhood program.

Assure all licensing and accreditation standards are achieved and maintained throughout the Preschool. Identify, plan for, communicate, monitor, and evaluate actions to comply with existing and new regulations, standards, and accreditation. Serve as the liaison to regulatory agencies and oversee the development of corrective action plans to address any identified issues.

Responsible for the employment and dismissal of teachers in coordination with the Program Director and Project Reflect Executive Director. Advise and support the Program Director in all instances of progressive counseling, disciplinary action, and if necessary, separation in accordance with EEOC, federal, state, local, and preschool guidelines.

Assure a clean, safe, child-ready center at all times.

Develop strategy and lead marketing efforts during key enrollment periods. Maintain ongoing marketing efforts throughout the year to sustain enrollment.

Collaborate with Executive Director and teaching staff to set and evaluate annual goals.

Maintain all records pertinent to staff and children (see PR Personnel Policies & Procedures regarding personnel records).

Develop annual budget for the program in cooperation with the Finance Sub-committee.

Guide and facilitate the review and final approval of both program budgets utilizing the committee channels.

Maintain financial records, collect fees, authorize payment of payroll and accounts payable.

Assume primary responsibility for necessary fundraising activities.

Communicate effectively with families and church members regarding the Preschool program through various means including newsletters, bulletin boards, and the webpage.

Meet with prospective families and plan placement of newly enrolled children in the classroom.

Develop relationships with local churches, community groups, and other stakeholders to ensure the Preschool is recognized as an excellent program for preparing students for success in kindergarten and beyond.

Facilitate the application process for families applying to enrichment programs such as Encore and private kindergarten programs.

Assume primary responsibility for interfacing with Second Harvest / Panache Food Services.

Building children’s self-esteem through positive guidance and nurturing.

Communicating with parents and discussing their children’s development.

Developing activities that promote literacy and math concepts.

Ensuring that the facility and all equipment is clean, well-maintained, and safe.

Establishing policies and procedures, including disciplinary policies.

Implementing positive discipline.

Maintaining and scheduling weekly and monthly activities.

Participating in ongoing in-service and education development opportunities, and participating in the ongoing development and evaluation of the program’s goals and objectives.

Planning and implementing activities that meet the physical, intellectual, emotional, and social needs of their students.

Providing a classroom environment that encourages parent participation.

Providing adequate equipment and activities.

Visually inspect all areas of the building and grounds for children prior to opening and closing the agency for the day.

Adults must always be able to hear the child, see the child with a quick glance, and respond immediately.

Mealtime Observations:

An adult must be in direct sight and sound while the child is eating.

At mealtime, children shall be seated at tables and chairs of appropriate size, and adults shall sit with them.

Adults must always know the whereabouts and activities of the children.

Each child shall be greeted and received by a teacher who will have ultimate responsibility for their supervision and care daily with a smile and loving care.

Conduct staff evaluations.

Ensure proper training is provided for all staff members.

Complete new hire orientation and paperwork with all staff members.

Teachers must track the whereabouts of each child and recognize the transfer of responsibility from one caregiver to another.

Enter attendance, enroll, and submit student information into the EAV system.

Education Required:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited 4-year college or be a registered nurse with less than a 4-year degree and 1 year of full-time experience with children in a group setting; or 36 hours of coursework at least 30 of which shall be in business management, child or youth development, early childhood education or a closely related field or a TN Early Childhood Administrator Credential; and 2 years of full-time experience with children in a group setting; or High School diploma (or equivalent as recognized by state law) and Tennessee Early Childhood Training Alliance Certificate for 30 clock hours of Administrator Orientation training or the equivalent as recognized by the Department and 4 years of full-time experience with children in a group; or continuously employed as an on-site child care director or a child care agency owner as of the effective date of these rules.

Fully Understands:

Children shall not be left in restraining devices such as swings, car seats, or highchairs (in excess of thirty (30) minutes).

Fully Understands:

Children shall be checked upon arrival and observed for signs of communicable disease during the day.

Symptomatic children shall be removed from the group until parents are contacted and health issues are resolved.

At least one staff with certification in first aid and one certified in CPR on duty always.

Smoking is not permitted in the presence of children.

The use of alcoholic beverages is not permitted in child care centers during the hours of operation of the center.

Firearms shall not be on the premises of a child care agency, in any vehicle used to transport children or in the presence of a child.

Staff’s personal belongings (purses, backpacks, coats, etc.) shall be inaccessible to children at all times.

All staff, substitute staff, and volunteers are required to immediately report any reasonable suspicion of child abuse or neglect. It is your

Age Requirement:

21 years of age.

Coursework in Business Administration

Expertise in both early childhood education/child development and administration/management. Minimum of three years teaching in early childhood education setting. Three to five years of experience in a progressive administrative leadership role.

Abilities to make independent decisions and apply established procedures to individual and specific situations pertaining to children, parents, committees, or staff in a non-biased manner. Must have effective communication and interpersonal skills and be conscientious and able to efficiently handle multiple tasks. Must have organizational and computer skills. Must be able to maintain a poised, professional demeanor.

Must be able to meet DHS requirements with a medical statement indicating that your general physical and mental condition permits you to direct and actively participate in activities with children, parents, and staff. Additionally, must comply with a tuberculosis test.

Light physical activity normally performing non-strenuous daily activities of an administrative nature, using close vision with moderate noise. Continuous work on the computer to carry out daily tasks.

Must be able to coordinate work, constantly move about, able to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms (occasionally overhead), stoop, kneel, talk to and hear staff and parent requests, and also occasionally lift or carry or otherwise move and position objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Must be able to respond quickly, moving and guiding children to safety in the event of an emergency. Adapting daily routines to meet the interest and needs of the individual child and the group.
