We are looking for a Project Engineer to join the Data Center team.

Reporting to the Director of Business Development, the Project Engineer will be a customer-facing lead on behalf of Smardt and responsible for coordinating and managing activities with different stakeholders such as Sales, Service, Field Service, QA/QC, and Engineering teams within Smardt, and externally with Data Center project team members, including DC Ownership Team, CX agent, EOR, GC, MEP subcontractors, equipment sub vendors, etc. in order to manage all Smardt site-related activities from equipment arrival on site to final hand-off to customer, post CX. Coordinate activities between any and all stakeholders noted above, execute all Start-up, CX and onsite project-related activities, and facilitate/track all parts/services during the project timeline schedule and post handoff to customer, including transition to post warranty and PM related services.

Project Responsibilities Include:

Coordinate equipment delivery to customer sites

Participate in Customer witnessed / Factory Witness Testing

Schedule start-up activities

Attend Smardt Internal DC and other various weekly meetings

Participate in scheduled pre-commissioning meetings

Issue required L2-L5 scope/scripts

Oversee all L2-L5 activities including customer equipment acceptance, start-up, commissioning, & final IST Test activities

Maintain site issues, deficiency lists, and open items with both Smardt and Client online tracking software programs

Coordinate with Service team for all warranty visits ensuring compliance to customer SLA’s

Coordinate with Service team for all parts ordering/delivery in both warranty and post-warranty periods

Review start-up and commissioning reports from Service Technicians

Coordinate efforts with Smardt authorized Local Service Providers

Prepare final product/project close-out documents

Coordinate Training activities post-project close-out

Develop Lessons Learned and QA/QC project list for review with Engineering/Production/QA/QC teams

Develop Preventative Maintenance programs and coordinate PM activities throughout the year

Coordinate with Smardt teams internally & customer site project teams for any required RCA initiatives

Lead and coordinate product updates and upgrades both internally and with customer sites

Any other related task, as directed by your supervisor

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering Degree - preferred.

Construction Management Degree also considered with related mechanical HVAC project experience.

Minimum 3-5 years Project Engineer/Project Manager Experience in the Mechanical, HVAC marketplace

Data Center experience a plus

Problem-solving skills - Data Center, Mission Critical Project engineers work at the highest level of complexity and require solving: planning, scheduling, coordination, execution, negotiation, etc. skillsets.

Decision-making skills - The Project Engineer must determine the feasibility of plans, especially regarding cost, schedule, safety, and quality concerns.

Leadership skills - The Project Engineer is ultimately responsible for the project’s success related to site Installation by contractors, Start up, Commissioning, turnover, and post-sale activities. You must be able to lead company Field Technicians, contractors, consultants, and other various internal and external team members.

Communication skills - The Project Engineer must be able to communicate well with other professionals, both internal and external, such as Owners, Engineers, GC, Subcontractors, CX Agents, Consultants, Field Staff, etc. You must be able to give instructions, write reports that people without an engineering background can understand as well as present plans, findings, and recommendations clearly both internally and externally.
