Job Summary:

We are looking for an exceptional candidate for a Laboratory Manager in a dynamic team exploring drug resistance, immunotherapy, and immunoprofiling in patients with cancer. The successful candidate will work under minimal supervision and is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling all aspects pertaining to laboratory functions, including specimen handling, data collection, process management, standard operating procedure development, data analyses, and outcomes monitoring.

The incumbent will oversee the steps needed to work with human cancer samples and cell lines and prepare libraries for comprehensive genomic sequencing. He/She will use fluorescent microscopy-based micromanipulation and flow cytometry and perform next-generation sequencing, including library preparation. The candidate will work to meet production goals while seeking to improve existing processes and innovate new approaches.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

Supervises and trains junior technicians and ensures competency of staff through hands-on supervision and training.

Manages inventory of biological samples.

Prepares, orders, and maintains stocks of required reagents and supplies.

Seeks to improve existing processes, develops standard operating procedures, and evaluates new approaches.

Troubleshoots protocols as needed.

Operates and maintains laboratory equipment to complete investigations.

Prepares primary human blood and tumor samples for further processing.

Handles sensitive primary human cells, using established protocols and collaborating closely with core facilities.

Performs isolation of circulating tumor cells and other single cells using fluorescent microscopy-based micromanipulation and flow cytometry.

Operates next-generation sequencing machines and prepares libraries for sequencing.

Documents, compiles, and analyzes experimental protocols and data.

Attends team meetings to share results and plan projects.

Other related tasks as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) and 4 – 6 years of progressively more responsible management experience. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes are essential.

Preferences:

Familiarity with fluorescent microscopy or flow cytometry is required.

Experience with molecular biology techniques such as PCR and/or sequencing library construction required.

Familiarity or experience with next-generation sequencing and library preparation preferred.

Working knowledge of computers required; familiarity with computer programming preferred.
