OVERVIEW:

Noroton Presbyterian Church (NPC) is a body of believers welcoming all to worshipJesus Christ, grow in faith through study of the Word, serve in the surrounding communities andthroughout the world, and care for our neighbors as ourselves. The Caring Ministries of NPC exist towalk with our brothers and sisters who need specific encouragement and remind them that they areseen and loved by Christ and their church family. NPC Counseling Center exists to provide Christian-based, clinically sound counseling to individuals (teens and adults), couples, and families. Our servicesassist those who are in need of spiritual counseling, experiencing seasons of distress, or otherwise needsupport for mental and spiritual wellness. The Christian Clinical Counseling Director is responsible fordeveloping, coordinating and leading NPC’s Christian Counseling Center.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ministerial:

Embody Christ-centered principles.

Integrate Christian counseling approaches when working with clients and training therapists.

Be prepared to begin meetings, groups and/or sessions by praying, reading scripture and utilizing other Christian practices.

Coordinate with NPC & advisory team to create and develop vision and logistics to establish and grow counseling ministry in line with NPC’s other faith-based efforts.

Clinical:

Knowledge of ethics and a wide variety of theoretical approaches to counseling.

Stay current on emerging issues and research in counseling.

Provide individual, couples, family and group therapy.

Complete screening and intake appointments for new clients.

Maintain relationships and appointments with clients.

Conduct sessions lasting 50 minutes reviewing progress after 12 sessions.

Seek opportunities to engage in special projects to support community mental health.

Supervision:

Provide supervision to therapists.

Offer constructive feedback to therapists regarding the incorporation of Christian teachings into their counseling sessions.

Oversee clinical growth opportunities for therapists.

Administrative:

Create and maintain a document of policies, procedures, scheduling, and facility coordination.

Keep an up-to-date list of resources and referrals for pastors, clients, trainee therapists and community members.

Oversee education and outreach to NPC Staff and community, including content creation as needed for website/social media.

Attend NPC staff meetings, Ministry team meetings, Session meetings (i.e., meetings of the Church’s governing body) when required, and other relevant meetings and training sessions as needed.

Project a positive Christian image to the congregation and beyond.

Other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.

DESIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:1. A maturing disciple of Jesus Christ.2. Four (4) years of job-related experience in the mental health field.3. Credentials to supervise trainee therapists and student interns.4. In-depth knowledge of relevant theory and code of ethics.5. Entrepreneurial spirit and enthusiasm towards the creation/realization of this ministry.6. Creative thinker with the ability to work independently and collaborate with a team.7. Strong leadership, relational and organizational skills, and exceptional communication skills (verbal and written).8. Ability to work flexible hours which may include mornings, evenings and some weekend hours.9. The ability to handle stress, work independently and as a team member, and deal with people in a professional manner consistent with the NPC staff covenant.10. Computer skills in a PC or Mac environment utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
