Area Assistant/Associate Agent-Small Acreage and Food Production Agent Continuing Eligible to provide leadership for Extension programs in the area of Small Acreage and Food Production. The Small Acreage and Food Production Area Agent will focus on small farm crop production, including supporting growers with aspects of marketing grant support. Will collaborate with growers, educational institutions, governmental organizations, and community organizations to develop a program that introduces new technologies and appropriate varieties for crop production with the focus of providing fresh local produce and value-added products to direct markets, CSAs, restaurants, and other outlets. Targeted educational programs may include beginning farmer workshops, on-farm food safety training, innovative irrigation practices, soil management, weed management, and season extension. Position housed in Camp Verde, AZ Extension Office. click here .Duties & Responsibilities

Program Development:Conduct a systematic analysis of national, Arizona, and county data, local resources, and historical information in order to identify community assets, program needs, and teaching opportunities.Identify resources (grants, contracts, in kind contributions, etc.) to enhance programs.Work in cooperation with community groups, local leaders, Extension advisory groups, and other Extension professionals, develops an annual Plan of Work.Consult with Extension faculty, Experiment Station researchers, and other experts in the development of educational programs, applied research, and scholarly works.Program Results:Evaluates and documents results and impacts of educational programs.Communicates program results to both professional peers and clientele through periodic reports, scholarly works, and various types of publications (e.g., bulletins/fact sheets, popular articles, state publications, scientific articles, social media, video, and computer programs).Consults with the County Extension Director(s) to evaluate program effectiveness and personal achievements as an Extension faculty member.Professionalism:Maintain professional competence through study, participation in professional meetings and applied knowledge to programmatic duties and responsibilities.Maintain high ethical and professional standards with commitment to Cooperative Extension and the University of Arizona.Promote Cooperative Extension to enhance public understanding of the organization's mission.Performs as a collegial member of Arizona Cooperative Extension. Collegiality is the cooperative interaction among colleagues where individuals work productively, and interact with civility with faculty, students, staff members, and stakeholders in all environments impacted by the university.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):Excellent administrative and program management skills.Evidence of ability to develop research projects and manage multiple work projects to assure timely completion.Demonstrated ability to obtain external funding.Promote public understanding and support for Extension and University programs.Understanding of Yavapai/Coconino County agricultural needs, local needs assessments, and socio-geography.Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree in plant sciences, horticulture or related disciplines.Experience in plant production systems, small scale agriculture, on-farm food safety, and other sustainable agricultural practices.Experience communicating effectively, both written and verbal.Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to University Fleet Safety Policy. Must also be able to provide own transportation and be able to travel statewide and nationally using all modes of transportation.Experience in collaboration and relationship building.Preferred Qualifications

Two years' experience in plant production systems, small scale agriculture, on-farm food safety, and other sustainable agricultural practices.Experience with row crop/vegetable/small grain farming.Other Information
