In everything we do, we aim to champion our employees and bring value to our customers, investors and society.Job Summary:Senior Accountant supporting the financial close process including maintenance of the general ledgers, journal entry preparation, and account reconciliation activity. Focus includes balance sheet and cash flow analysis and special projects. Responsible for maintaining accounting records of NRG. This position is responsible for variance analysis and investigation of operational and financial data. The Senior Accountant assists in increasing the efficiency of processes and procedures. This role also works closely with multiple departments across NRG to understand company operations and ensure financial information is presented accurately and timely, while also identifying opportunities for process enhancements. Additionally, the position is accountable for the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of the preparation of the Company’s accounting information in accordance with US GAAP.Responsibilities:

Perform monthly financial close procedures including preparation of journal entriesAnalyze and investigate monthly fluctuations related to working capital and cash flowWork with cross-functional team members to understand company operations to ensure financial information is presented accurately and timelyPreparation of monthly account reconciliations and analyses for Balance Sheet reviewAssist with preparation of quarterly controllers’ packageSupport internal and external audit procedures and requestsAssure Internal Controls procedures are followed and documentedAssist with ad hoc research and analysis to support decision making processesIdentify areas for continuous improvement including support for process and system changes where necessary working with IT and other stakeholder groupsAssist with special projects as requestedWorking Conditions:

Hybrid work schedule; a combination of working remotely from home and 3 days a week in the officeOpen office environmentSome overtime required during closings and as special projects ariseMinimal TravelMinimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and at least 5 years of accounting/finance experience or 2+ years of Public Accounting experienceThorough technical/professional knowledge and understanding of GAAPAbility to work with employees at all levels within the organizationHighly organized with strong oral and written communication skillsAbility to work independently and within a teamAble to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlinesAbility to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy.High level of motivation and aptitude for problem solving, with a strong attention to detail.Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel with knowledge of advanced features such as pivot tables and look upsPreferred Qualifications:

MBA or CPA designationKnowledge of the power/gas wholesale and retail energy marketsExperience with SAP or similar ERP systemExperience with Hyperion Financial Management or comparableDemonstrated ability to communicate with all levels of internal and external customers.Experience with team building and developing team membersProven analytical and problem solving skills; demonstrated planning and organizing skills; ability to think strategically/long-termWhy NRG is a great place to work:Great company culture!!
