Part-Time Medical AssistantTemporary Employment ProgramJob SummaryNOTE: Part-time temp position (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) between 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. The anticipated duration of this assignment is approximately 3 months.This position offers the opportunity to work in the clinic and infusion areas within a thriving community cancer practice. Under supervision of the Administrative Nurse, guided by policies and procedures of the Ambulatory Services, and in collaboration with the Clinical Nursing Staff, the Hospital Assistant III (Medical Assistant) assists in the delivery of care to patients in multiple Cancer Center ambulatory group practices. This position supports the Cancer Services and Ambulatory Services and Infusion Unit. Work includes a variety of personal care and nursing procedures including assuring positive care outcomes. They will perform assigned patient care and laboratory procedures in support of the specialty care services provided to patients within the practices. They are required to learn and be able to assist in all Cancer Center specialty practices. They are required to adhere to the Telephone and House Standards as adopted by the Medical Center. This position requires the flexibility to work evenings, weekends and Holidays.Key Responsibilities:Clinical Practice & Documentation:

Validate, obtain, and document patient-reported information and vital signs.Follow safety, environment, and infection control standards.Perform routine clinical functions (e.g., vital signs, pain screening, chief complaints).Assist with medication reconciliation and exam/procedure preparation.Document interpreter use and coordinate interpreting services.

Procedure Assistance & Sterile Processing:

Perform sterile processing (e.g., Cidex OPA) and maintain logs.Assist in complex medical procedures (e.g., Laser, TRUS, Colposcopy).Act as a chaperone for medical providers.

Patient Care & Infusion Services:

Float between Cancer Center Adult Infusion Services.Transport patients and monitor patient flow.Obtain specimens, perform Point of Care Testing, and conduct simple lab procedures.Update mandatory logs (e.g., temperature, disaster cabinet, crash cart).Offer care items (e.g., juice, blankets) and manage inventory.

Administrative Support:

Complete referrals and obtain authorizations from insurers.Assist with patient communications and ensure timely clinical activities.Comply with infection control, safety, and clinical practice policies.

Team Collaboration & Communication:

Coordinate patient care and address patient care issues.Maintain professional telephone communications and notify providers of delays.Share pertinent information with the health team and offer improvement suggestions.Assist patients with issues using conflict management skills.

Electronic Health Record (APEX) Utilization:

Document vital signs, patient history, and medications.Order and sign Point of Care Tests (POCT) under protocol.Enter and "pend" orders, open medication refill encounters, and schedule testing.

Operations Maintenance:

Maintain clean, well-stocked exam rooms and lab.Order supplies and ensure proper lab equipment maintenance.Handle biohazard and chemotherapy waste removal.Schedule complex procedures and coordinate services.Assign and ensure coverage of clinic duties.

Quality Improvement & Customer Service:

Participate in QI initiatives (e.g., wait time studies, outcome data collection).Adhere to infection control and equipment sterilization procedures.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.Required Qualifications:Ability to be flexible and orient between Mt. Zion and Mission Bay UCSF campuses.All candidates

must meet at least one

of the following criteria:

Certificate of training or graduation from an accredited MA, Home Health Aide, PCA, CNA, dental or paramedic program or college degree in a related field such as community health, infectious disease, public health or health education and 6 months of relevant experience.2 years of relevant experience as a Medical Assistant in a hospital or medical practice.
