BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Responsible for organizing and directing staff in the Registration and Billing Departments. Works to continually strengthen the Revenue Cycle and develops and implements policies and procedures to support these functions. Sets goals for areas to ensure timely collection of net receivables. Able to motivate team and develop new leaders. Leads by example.

Minimum Education:

Bachelors Degree Required.

Degree:

Bachelor degree in Business Administration or related field.

Minimum Work Experience:

4-5 years experience in hospital Business Office required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Able to communicate effectively, in written and oral form. Familiar with CPT, HCPCS and ICD 9 coding. Familiar with rules and regulations published by CMS and other major third party payers.

Current with compliance, HIPAA laws and regulations.

Reviews Contracts, assists in addressing terms that can and cannot be administered by facility, gives feedback during negotiations of current system problems.

Can motivate team and work as a team player.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Works with other departments to strengthen the revenue cycle. Establishes metrics for team/department to ensure cash collection are met.

Works with team leaders to ensure proper ongoing training for billing and collections to ensure compliance with billing. Works with team to ensure customers' needs are met and expectations are exceeded.

Ensures established standards are met or exceeded regarding licensing or regulatory agencies (e.g., JCAHO, OSHA, ASHA, APTA, AOTA, Public Health, etc.). Plans, coordinates, and evaluates complete scope of Business Office activities within hospital organizational structure.

Provides daily leadership to team: Reassigns work as needed to meet the demands of the day. Maintains team schedule and follows the established process with manager to ensure proper coding in Kronos. Assists staff as needed.

Leads by example: Serves as a role model for all staff in how we want work done, how we want co-workers and families treated.

Reviews any claim rejections and process issues for possible billing edits, new reports etc that may be needed to better manage the revenue cycle process.

Manages all activities so that quality services are provided in an efficient and effective manner, as observed by the director. Continuously endeavors to improve Departments processes, procedures, and effectiveness.

Documents accounts properly: All interactions with any account will require a note posted to document work on that account.

Attends all required safety training and CBL requirements: Attends all educational programs as needed. Practices safe lifting and body mechanic procedures.

Keeps VP of Finance informed of any urgent needs/pressing issues. Completes responsibilities in a timely manner through effective organization, setting priorities, delegation, and time management skills.

Maintain confidentiality of all hospital and patient information at all times.

Patient/Family Complaints are handled in a confidential, timely and professional manner.

Develops standards of performance and monitors and supervises staff; evaluates performance and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions.

Reviews department performance, affects changes, as needed, to improve services provided and ensure compliance with both hospital guidelines and regulatory requirements.

Manages departmental human resources according to organization-wide policies and procedures to ensure quality services and promote positive employee relations.

Creates training as needed for team/department to ensure current needs are met.

Identifies problems, offers solutions, and communicates with Management as needed.

Develops and recommends department operating budget and ensures that the department operates within allocated funds.

Monitors, reviews, justify and implement strategies to improve financial performance for assigned departments.

Light lifting, pushing and pulling is required for 10-20 lbs occasionally and frequent moving of objects of less than 10 lbs is required.
