The Director Patient Financial Services is responsible for overseeing the billing, collection, and revenue cycle operations of the health system. The Director ensures compliance with federal, state, and payer regulations, policies, and procedures. The Director also develops and implements strategies to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and customer service of the patient financial services department.

Management and Leadership (50%)

Directs and manages the staff and functions of the patient financial services department, including billing, collection, cash posting, customer service, and financial counseling. Provides leadership, guidance, and training to the patient financial services staff. Fosters a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement. Coordinates and collaborates with other departments and stakeholders.

Establishes and monitors performance metrics, goals, and standards for the department. Evaluates and reports on the productivity, quality, and financial performance of the department. Conducts performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, and staff development plans.

Compliance and Performance Improvement (40%)

Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and payer regulations, guidelines, and contracts. Ensures timely and accurate submission of claims, resolution of denials, and collection of accounts receivable. Prepares and analyzes reports, dashboards, and trends related to the patient financial services operations. Identifies and implements best practices and process improvements.

Stays abreast of the latest developments and trends in the healthcare industry, especially related to billing, collection, and revenue cycle management. Participates in professional associations, conferences, and educational programs.

Financial Management (10%)

Develops and manages the budget for the patient financial services department. Monitors and controls expenses and revenue. Identifies and implements cost-saving and revenue-enhancing initiatives.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree required in related field

Experience:

6 years relevant experience in healthcare, including 2 years serving in a supervisor or manager role.

Example of relevant experience includes revenue cycle in any combination of patient financial services, billing/collections, accounting, or managed care in an acute-care or multi-specialty physician environment.
