A Day in the Life:

MKS Instruments is seeking an exceptional Software Engineering Co-op to join the team. In this position, you will be tasked to integrate a new test automation component into an existing testing infrastructure; gain hands-on experience with Power Generator hardware and laboratories equipment; develop a good understanding of firmware testing on embedded devices; and familiarize yourself with professional software development practices.

You Will Make an Impact By:

Interface with embedded devices and laboratory equipment, such as oscilloscopes.

Handle simple low-power electrical and electronic wiring like 110V AC, Ethernet, RJ45, SMB, BNC.

Participate in the software development process, including stand-up meetings, planning sessions, grooming, reviews, demonstrations, and retrospectives.

Exercise the existing testing framework to which to integrate a new test automation component.

Debug and fix issues discovered during the implementation.

Analyze and report test progresses and results with Excel, Power BI or custom analysis scripts.

Follow the software development process for your development.

Host training sessions for the new integrated testing components to SW development team.

Attend various meetings, like 1-1 with managers and/or mentors, staff meetings, ad-hoc discussion meetings.

Skills that you bring:

Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering with concentrations in embedded system and electronic designs or relevant majors.

Must have development experience in real-world projects using Python and Matlab. C++ experience preferred.

Must have working experience with terminals, like shell, telnet and ssh, on Windows and on Linux (Ubuntu).

Must have basic knowledge of networking, like TCP/UDP, IP routing, network interface cards and drivers.

Must have basic knowledge of source code version control system, the code review process, Continuous Integration services.

4th or 5th year students preferred.

Competencies:

Demonstrate dedication in completing the tasks.

Be kind, professional, polite and respectful.

Maintain a good working relationship with team members.

Be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, and Slack.

Need to have basic knowledge of Agile software development, like Jira.

Working Conditions:

No travel requirements.

Onsite work only. No remote or hybrid work arrangement.

Compensation and Benefits:

Hourly Pay Range: $25.00 - $28 per hour. This range is a good faith estimate of the expected salary range for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience and training, operational and business needs and other considerations permitted by law. At MKS, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role.

Benefits: MKS offers a benefits package for interns/co-ops working at least 20 hours per week, including 11 paid holidays, sick time, and 15 paid vacation days accrued on a biweekly basis.
