Job SummaryTo provide independent advanced level nurse practitioner clinical expertise to patients and their families on an ongoing basis. This includes the management of chronic stable medical conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and specialty protocols (e.g. chemotherapy) as defined by standardized procedures or independently based on licensure. This may include non-invasive or invasive procedures, surgical procedures, including operative first assist per approved standardized procedures as identified by the list available on the Medical Staff Office. Patient management decisions are independent where appropriate after assessment of the patient and interdependent with consultation with an attending or other member of the team. NPs are expected to act as an expert resource person for health care providers including nurses, residents and other ancillary staff.
Provides patient care in a team-based care environment to a diversified patient population. Applies knowledge, experience and judgment to determine the importance of a situation, set priorities, and use abstract thought to evaluate clinical situations. Participates in patient and staff education. Demonstrates leadership skills. Demonstrates accountability for own practices as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction
California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing License
California Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) without restriction
Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Certificate within 3 months of hire
American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR
National NP board certification in aligned specialty with the practice area
Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-ACNP) Board Certification
American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Graduation with a master's degree, DNP or PhD in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing.
One (1) or more years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner in an inpatient critical care area or surgical specialty, or completion of a nationally accredited Advanced Practice Fellowship Program in an aligned specialty
Ability to cope with personal stress experienced by team members, other professionals, and caretakers
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Judgment skills to effectively meet the needs of patients
Self-direction and organizational skills to function in an independent role
Ability to meet minimum standards for hospital credentialing and billing standards as a billable provider
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS)
One year or more experience as a nurse practitioner in a Burn Unit or Burn ICU

Department Specific Job ScopeUnder the supervision of the Burn Division Chief, this position provides inpatient and outpatient care to Burn Surgery patients and their families, functions as a resource person for health care providers, and participates in the Department of Surgery's teaching program. The role of the Burn Nurse Practitioner is to perform patient evaluations, physical examinations, follow-up exams and obtaining and documenting patient histories. May be required to perform central line and/or arterial line placement, other procedures as directed by the attending physician in accordance with standardized procedures. The incumbent is also responsible for the management of acute care conditions that may arise from burn injuries, and the management of long-term health care issues that may result from burn injuries. The incumbent provides care education to the patient and their family members or caregivers.
