Job Summary

To provide independent advanced level physician assistant clinical expertise to patients and their families on an ongoing basis. This includes the management of chronic stable medical conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and specialty protocols (e.g. chemotherapy) as defined by practice agreements for your specific department. This may include non-invasive or invasive procedures, surgical procedures, including operative first assist per approved standardized procedures as identified by the list available on the Medical Staff Office. Patient management decisions will be independent where appropriate after assessment of the patient and interdependent with consultation with an attending or other member of the team. PAs are expected to act as an expert resource person for health care providers including nurses, residents, and other ancillary staff.Provides direct patient care to a diversified patient population. Applies knowledge, experience and judgment to determine the importance of a situation, set priorities, and use abstract thought to evaluate clinical situations. Participates in patient and staff education. Demonstrates leadership skills. California Licensed Physicians Assistant (PA)Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Certificate within 3 months of hireNational board certification as a physician assistant (NCCPA)American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPRAmerican Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)Graduation with a master's degree, or PhD from an accredited Physician Assistant ProgramOne (1) or more years of experience as a Physician Assistant in an inpatient critical care area or surgical specialty, or completion of a nationally accredited Advanced Practice Fellowship Program in an aligned specialtyAbility to cope with personal stress experienced by team members, other professionals, and caretakersExcellent verbal and written communication skillsJudgment skills to effectively meet the needs of patientsSelf-direction and organizational skills to function in an independent roleAbility to meet minimum standards for hospital credentialing and billing standards as a billable providerPreferred Qualifications

Under the supervision of the Burn Division Chief, this position provides inpatient and outpatient care to Burn Surgery patients and their families, functions as a resource person for health care providers, and participates in Department of Surgery's teaching program. The role of the Burn Physician Assistant is to perform patient evaluations, physical examinations, follow-up exams and obtaining and documenting patient histories. May be required to perform central line and/or arterial line placement, other procedures as directed by the attending physician in accordance with standardized procedures. The incumbent is also responsible for the management of acute care conditions that may arise from burn injuries, and the management of long-term health care issues that may result from burn injuries. The incumbent provides care education to the patient and their family members or caregivers.POSITION INFORMATION
