SUMMARYThe Project Accountant provides financial specialist support to a project team, reviewing and evaluating project charges for accuracy, completing cost transfers as needed, instituting and maintaining project budgets, and ensuring that project data in the company’s ERP system is current and complete. Serves as a resource to project and operations management in the use of the company’s ERP system. Provides project and subcontract status information for review, works with Project Managers to update project forecasts in ERP, and assists in preparing and recording project invoices. Provides recommendations to Project and Operations Managers concerning project-related financial or accounting issues as needed.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Additional duties may be assigned.Responsible for providing financial specialist support to regional project management and operations teams.Serve as the financial systems subject matter expert for assigned teams.Provide hands-on support reviewing, tracking, and processing payment applications from subcontractors, purchase order origination and receiving, accounts payable for purchase orders, and miscellaneous accounts payable for multiple projects.Assist management with the preparation of project cost-to-complete forecast projections, Work-In-Process analysis, and investigating project variances.Support job cost accounting in the financial management system, including assisting Project Managers with budget control, change order tracking, committed cost control, and job cost transfers.Process and record project billings, owner payment applications, and project budget changes.Communicate with project managers, vendors, and external parties to facilitate draw requests/requirements.Ensure accounts payable and purchase orders are coded to the proper GL account number, job number, and cost code and routed to the appropriate Project Management team members for approval.Responsible for lien waiver generation, subcontractor insurance verification, subcontractor business license, and W-9 updates for vendors.Attend project-related meetings to inform the team regarding the status of project financials, articulating problem issues, and following up on any identified actions as discussed.Prepare monthly projection reports or other reports as needed by Project Managers and Operations Leadership (i.e. project forecast and regional G&A roll-ups, open purchase orders, outstanding receivables, invoice approval queue, etc.).Collaborate with ERP, Finance, and Operations leadership in the development and rollout of new ERP system functionality and related processes, including testing and scoping.QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform satisfactorily the essential duties and responsibilities noted above. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEBachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or closely-related discipline (or at least 5 years in progressively responsible roles applying accounting and/or financial management skills).Minimum of three years of construction accounting experience.Knowledge of project accounting principles, practices, and methods and their application to project work-related issues, including project cost-to-complete forecasts and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.Excellent communication and time-management skills.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task.COMPUTER SKILLSAdvanced Microsoft Office Proficiency (Word, Excel, and Outlook). Proficiency with CMiC is preferred, prior experience with Sage 300, Vista Viewpoint, Foundation, or similar construction software is helpful.WORK ENVIRONMENTThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
