Overview:Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a mid to senior-level Systems Engineer to support the new NASA Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Project Office focused on overcoming the key technical, regulatory and social challenges facing the urban air mobility (UAM) business case, which includes both scheduled and on-demand air transportation of passenger and cargo around metropolitan areas. In support to the NASA AAM Project, personnel will also work closely with Industry and the Federal Aviation Administration on addressing the challenges mentioned above.MTSI’s role is to provide engineering and technical services required to support the enablement of ARMD’s UAM vision and strategy. Key project deliverables include the UAM System Engineering Management Plan, Public Outreach Strategy, AAM CONOPs, System Architectures, Requirements, and Guidance Material. MTSI is also responsible for architecting, developing and managing a model-based system engineering (MBSE) environment for capturing all project content.Responsibilities:Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a mid to senior-level Systems Engineer able to help stand up the newly established NASA AAM Project Office by providing systems engineering and project management support. Initial focus will be on drafting and coordinating project formulation documentation required by NPR 7120.8A and supporting the development of presentations required at NASA Key Decision Point (KDP) meetings. You will work out of MTSI’s Alexandria, VA office and will need to periodically participate in local meetings in the Washington DC Metro Area. Infrequent travel to one or more NASA’s Aviation Research Centers may also be required.Your essential job functions will include but may not be limited to:You will work across NASA, FAA and Industry to solve key technical, regulatory and social challenges such as: Vehicle Development and Production; Vehicle Operations; Airspace Design and Implementation; Air Traffic Control and Fleet Management; and Public Acceptance.You will support a series of UAM flight demonstrations that NASA will coordinate and conduct in partnership with UAM vehicle manufacturers, avionics developers, air traffic service providers and regulatory agencies.Qualifications:15+ years' applicable Systems Engineering and Software Development experience.Experience implementing the systems engineering process using MBSE Tools and procedures.Familiarity with unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and/or urban air mobility (UAM) vehicles.Familiarity with the FAA Airspace rules and regulations.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Proficiency in using MS Office products such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel.Desired Skills:Experience leading organizations through the systems engineering lifecycle using MBSE techniques.Knowledge of UAS airspace integration issues, with specific emphasis on civil/commercial applications.Knowledge of rotorcraft or fixed wing flight.Former UAS manufacturer, FAA or NASA experience.Familiarity supporting a government project office.Educational Requirements:Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or related STEM field of study.Clearance Requirements:No clearance required to start. DoD Secret clearance, desired. U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.
