Job Summary

Registered Nurses in the Infection Prevention Department at UC Davis Medical Center provide expertise in Infection Prevention & Control and Hospital Epidemiology for patients and staff in all areas of the Medical Center, Hospital Service Departments (HSDs), and hospital-based clinics as well as the entire network of Primary Care Network (PCNs) under UC Davis Health.The Assistant Nurse Manager in Infection Prevention is a registered nurse responsible for the operation of the department during normal operational hours, when scheduled, as well as in the absence of the Department Manager or Director. The Assistant Nurse Manager must have a strong foundation of clinical knowledge in infection prevention and hospital epidemiology on which to base judgments and make decisions, organizing abilities to direct and oversee various and multifaceted infection prevention tasks and operations of the department. The Assistant Nurse Manager must have strong interpersonal skills necessary to facilitate communication and the work of others. The Assistant Nurse Manager accepts the responsibility for, and is accountable for, his/her own nursing practice. The Assistant Nurse Manager also seeks out and pursues opportunities for learning and assumes responsibility for their own self-development. Registered nurses, certified in infection prevention, must be knowledgeable in their field and skillful in performing the Assistant Nurse Manager role. Three fundamental responsibilities for Assistant Nurse Manager include planning, coordinating, and evaluating departmental activities and personnel.In addition, the Assistant Nurse Manager identifies and implements appropriate infection prevention interventions as necessary and evaluates results for a wide variety of patient populations, directs and acts as an expert resource to other members of the infection prevention team as well as others throughout the health system as assigned in order to promote compliance and support for policies. The primary responsibilities for this position consist of providing total, comprehensive, continuous and patient-centered care which includes: assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating infection prevention practices that promote safe patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties; and adhering to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state and local regulations.Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with American Nurses' Association Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Minimum Qualifications

The Infection Prevention and Hospital Epidemiology Department is responsible for the entire Infection Prevention program that spans the inpatient and ambulatory sites of care, developing department plans and goals using evidence-based best practices; and ensuring regulatory compliance. The Department plays an integral part of policy development for emergency preparedness pertaining to a pandemic or bioterror attack. We maintain a close association with State and County Health Departments as well as the Centers for Disease Control.Physical Demands
