The County of San Diego has current openings for:Principal Data and Research AnalystThese positions may offer a mix of in office and teleworking after an initial training period.Interviews will take place Week of October 21, 2024.Job offer for the selected candidate will take place the week of October 28, 2024.Principal Data and Research Analysts report to unclassified or executive managers. They are responsible for overseeing a portfolio of projects, which could include an organization’s entire data analysis function. They also provide advice to the organization’s leadership on strategic decisions for data analysis functions, and they serve as liaisons with other County departments and external organizations to establish, maintain, and strengthen strategic partnerships. They have significant training and experience in advanced data analysis methods and can manage individual data analysis projects.IDEAL CANDIDATEThe current vacancy is in Public Health Services (PHS); however, the eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies in other departments. The ideal PHS candidate will have extensive experience with data management oversight in a public health or healthcare environment, leading a team in providing data to assist in programmatic development and designing and performing program evaluation. The candidate will have extensive expertise in applied research and data analysis, development of data collection tools, and use of surveillance and epidemiologic analysis to guide public health practice, with a particular focus on evaluation activities. Experience with writing reports, preparing and submitting grant applications, and ensuring evaluation deliverables are met, are also desirable skill sets.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSA bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. college or university or a certified foreign studies equivalency; AND, five (5) years of full-time professional level experience performing data analysis and research activities to support program, policy, and/or operational decision-making with at least one (1) year managing projects. OR,Nine (9) years of full-time professional level experience performing data analysis and research activities to support program, policy, and/or operational decision-making with at least one (1) year managing projects.Notes: A doctoral degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency may substitute for two (2) years of the required experience or a master's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience. Additional years of experience as described above may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENTAs part of the County of San Diego’s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment.
