Protestant Contemporary Service Music Director Overview

General Responsibilities:

Lead and deliver a complete volunteer worship/praise set package, usually four but not limited to songs for performance to the Contemporary Worship Service (CWS) style, based on the needs of the service pastor, to include at a minimum two singers, one guitar player, one drummer, and one piano/keyboard player, who perform all musically proficiently in support of the contemporary style of worship.

Be familiar and competent with online streaming procedures. At the direction of the worship service chaplain, provide prelude music 15 minutes prior to the worship service, special music during offertory and/or communion, and music during the altar call and closing of the worship service.

Be familiar with and able to read and select for performance a variety of modern contemporary and hymnal-based worship styles.

Provide instrumental and accompaniment music in worship services as needed.

Develop a music order for each worship service.

1. Coordinate the worship service order with the CWS Chaplain, worship band/praise team members, and audio/visual technicians.

2. No later than two (2) weeks prior to the service, provide to the CWS Chaplain a “set” list for approval.

3. Implement the music order as developed, coordinated, and approved.

Provide multi-media worship slides in Pro-Presenter format for congregational use no later than seven days prior to the service.

Submit requests for purchase of resources/materials needed to perform duties to the Senior Faith Group Chaplain.

1. All necessary purchases of materials must be pre-approved by the Chaplain in Charge.

2. These items will be paid for by the Chapel.

Organization-furnished Workspace, Supplies, and Equipment:

The Government will provide working space in the chapel and all equipment as required for the personnel.

1. One electric guitar, one acoustic guitar, one bass guitar, one keyboard, and one electric drum set are provided. The Music Director may elect to use personally furnished equipment if desired.

Due to limited resources and space, the Music Director may be required to share a workspace with other personnel.

The Government-owned furniture, computers, instruments, sound equipment, supplies, etc. will not be moved without the express permission of an active-duty Chaplain or Religious Affairs Airman.

The Music Director may schedule chapel facilities to prepare the worship team for worship service performance.

The Music Director shall be accountable for the security and cleanliness of all facilities utilized in conjunction with their programs.

The Music Director shall coordinate support requirements with the Protestant Religious Education Coordinator, and the Gospel Service Chaplain, or designee in their absence.

Work Hours and Operational Hours:

All worship services, special programs, and associated rehearsals shall be conducted on Keesler AFB unless otherwise approved by the Wing Chaplain or Chapel Staff. At a minimum, the Contractor shall perform:

1. One rehearsal per week.

2. Most volunteers are Airmen in Training with a strict training schedule; if the Musical Director elects to have worship rehearsals during the week, they will have to take place after 5:00 pm.

3. One worship service and up to eight special services or events throughout the year (may include programs on holidays) for a total of 60 events.

4. The additional eight special services and rehearsals will be authorized by the Senior Faith Group Chaplain or Chapel Staff.

5. The Music Director shall remain present during the entire worship service including setup, sound check, and tear down post worship service.

6. The Contemporary Music Director shall ensure all necessary personnel and logistics will arrive no later than 45 minutes prior to the start of worship services.

7. Worship services are currently held at the Triangle Chapel on Sunday at 8:30 am. The day of the week and time of services are subject to change based on the needs of the Air Force.

Minimum Standards of Education, Qualification, Experience:

The Music Director shall:

Have two (2) years of experience leading Protestant worship service as a paid military member, active-duty, spouse/dependent, government employee, or government contractor.

Have two (2) years of experience directing, coordinating, leading, and performing modern contemporary styles of worship and music for a Protestant church/chapel in the last two (2) years.

Be an active member/attendee at a Protestant church/chapel.

Have an understanding of music theory and be able to transpose music to different keys.

Have the ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written English.

Have the ability to effectively accomplish assigned tasks with minimal supervision.

Familiarity with and ability to use the following computer programs: Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Pro-Presenter (experience preferred).

Pay: $19.00 - $27.00 per hour
