Gospel Service Music Director Overview

General Responsibilities:

The Music Director shall:

Be familiar with and properly utilize the Church Copyright License (CCLI). The CCLI license is provided for by the Chapel.

Develop, coordinate, and implement a comprehensive program of music for the Gospel Service with the approval of the Senior Faith Group Leader or Chapel Staff.

Develop a music order for each worship service;

Coordinate the worship service order with the Gospel Service Chaplain, and all paid and volunteer musicians, vocalists, and audio/visual technicians.

Implement the music order as developed, coordinated, and approved.

Provide worship slides/display for the music selections as needed.

Worship slides must be turned in to the Service Chaplain prior to the service.

Worship songs will be determined and submitted to the Service Chaplain for coordination.

Communicate to and prepare the song selections with the musician(s).

Be responsible for directing Sunday service music and weekday rehearsals.

Interview, recruit, and train prospective volunteers, non-prior service (NPS) students, active duty/reserve military, retirees, and their dependents, to participate in the music program.

Be able to relate to the volunteers who may participate in the choir and worship band.

Lead the choir and worship band in a Christian Bible-based devotional and prayer prior to each rehearsal and worship service.

Schedule, at least every other month, fellowship opportunities for the choir and worship band.

Submit requests for purchase of resources/materials needed to perform duties to the Senior Faith Group Chaplain as required for purchase of resources/materials needed to perform duties.

List of Organization-furnished Workspace, Supplies, and Equipment:

The Government will provide working space in a base chapel and all equipment as required for personnel.

Due to limited resources and space, the Music Director may be required to share a workspace and equipment with other personnel.

The Music Director coordinates support requirements with the Protestant Religious Education Coordinator, and the Gospel Service Chaplain, or designee in their absence.

Government-owned furniture, computers, instruments, sound equipment, supplies, etc. will not be moved without the express permission of the Superintendent, Religious Affairs, and/or the Deputy Wing Chaplain.

The Music Director shall be accountable for the security and cleanliness of all facilities utilized in conjunction with their programs.

Work Hours and Operational Hours:

All worship services, special programs, and associated rehearsals shall be conducted on Keesler AFB unless otherwise approved by the Wing Chaplain or Chapel Staff.

At a minimum, the Music Director shall perform one-weekday rehearsal and one Sunday service per week.

Additional services and rehearsals in conjunction with special programs/holiday programs may be authorized by the Wing Chaplain or Chapel Staff.

Rehearsals shall be a minimum of one hour.

The Music Director shall arrive no later than 40 minutes prior to the start of worship services and 30 minutes prior for rehearsals.

Worship services are currently held at the Triangle Chapel on Sunday at 12:30 pm. The day of the week and time of services are subject to change based on the needs of the Air Force. Any changes due to emergencies, the Music Director will be notified within the hour.

Minimum Standards of Education, Qualification, Experience:

The Music Director shall:

Have two (2) years of experience directing gospel styles of worship and music services for a Protestant church/chapel, preferably in the last 5 years.

Have an active membership/attendance at a Protestant church/chapel with a letter of endorsement from their current pastor/chaplain.

Furnish a resume including work-related experience.

A positive, self-directed, motivated character with the ability to interface well within the pluralistic atmosphere of the Air Force Chaplaincy. Shall have the ability to maintain healthy, functional interpersonal relationships with staff and parishioners, and maintain professional standards of conduct and public decorum, including but not limited to dress and grooming.

The ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written English.

The ability to read and direct four-part choral music and congregational hymns to include:

Providing leadership for tempos, dynamics, style, entrances, etc.

Directing individual parts during rehearsals and performances as needed.

Have organizational skills to select anthems, hymns, calls to worship, and other worship music that falls within a gospel worship format according to church/liturgical calendar.

The ability to effectively accomplish assigned tasks with minimal supervision.

The ability to work as a member of a team and motivate/train others.

A familiarity with and the ability to productively use the following computer programs: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Power Point, and Pro-presenter or other virtual media platforms is preferred but not required.

Pay: $19.00 - $27.00 per hour
