Job Description Summary:

GW Engineering seeks a Digital Multimedia Specialist to advance the School of Engineering and Applied Science by working collaboratively within the school and across the university to elevate the academic reputation, enrollment efforts, alumni engagement, research enterprise, and connect the GW Engineering community of students, faculty, staff, and alumni with high-quality information and experiences.

The primary focus of this position is to advance the school through visuals (graphics and video)
– working collaboratively with the Director of Marketing and Communications, the GW Engineering marketing and communication team, and other colleagues to achieve departmental goals. Core relationships within the school include the Dean’s office, the marketing and communications team, administrative colleagues across academic departmental leadership, graduate enrollment and admissions, undergraduate enrollment and admissions, student-facing roles and Development and Alumni Relations. Within the university, this role collaborates with GW Creative Services and GW Advertising, and other departments working directly with students to produce visual storytelling.

The position reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications and should specialize in visual/creative content creation and provides strategic vision associated with creation of marketing deliverables used in print, web and multimedia applications throughout the school of engineering. 

Additional Responsibilities are:

  • Strategizes and executes on a timeline, co-manages the content calendar, collaborating with team members managing, social media, web, and other paid, earned and owned mediums. 
  • Plans and manages through execution graphic design and video production for the school in a creative, collaborative and inclusive team environment. 
  • Plans and implements through visual storytelling that engages key internal and external audiences, creating and amplifying authentic and inclusive brand reaffirming messages and thought leadership. 
  • Manages software and digital filing/ sharing of content through but not limited to Canto, Adobe, Venmo, Apple, PlayPlay, Cinebody, Canva, Marq, Google, Microsoft – and recommends other software and equipment as needed.
  • Measures outcomes to determine future shifts in creative direction, strategy, and tactics. 
  • Oversees graphic design, content capture and editing, communications and multimedia to achieve department’s goals. 
  • On occasion may capture content with school equipment (photo, video, audio) to leverage content production. 
  • Follows the AP Style Guide, the GW Brand Guide and integrates brand personality as appropriate; and manages permissions for displaying personas in the content. 

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required. Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of successful experience in project management, graphic design, digital media, video and photo editing, creative design, and website design.

  • Strong organizational and operational skills to oversee and complete multiple complex projects working in parallel.
  • Experience in marketing and communications in higher education is a plus but not required.
  • Able to interact effectively with a diverse population at all levels, facilitate decision-making, and maintain a positive and constructive demeanor treating all staff, students, faculty, alumni, and vendors with professionalism, courtesy, and respect.
  • Exceptional judgement and demonstrated background producing content across audiences and platforms, highly organized management skills, polished and inclusive communication style across audiences. 
  • A background in marketing and communications leveraging digital marketing tools and software to amplify authentic messaging and storytelling that is informative and/or persuasive is highly desired. 
  • Perform in a hybrid position located within the GW School of Engineering and Applied Science in Washington, D.C., just two blocks from the Foggy Bottom Metro (Orange, Silver, Blue) and collaborate with the GW Marketing and Communications team located a few blocks away in “Western Market” at 2000 Pennsylvania Ave.
