Overview

Offering an exceptional opportunity, Carilion Clinic (CC), Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM), and the Department of Surgery, Section of General Surgery, Division of Surgical and Breast Oncology in Roanoke, Virginia are searching for a Chief of the Division to lead our growing team of three surgeons and four advanced practice providers in a clinic-based, academic program with remarkable prospects in teaching, research, and clinical surgery. The Chief will direct the clinical, educational, and research activities for the Division. This is a great chance to join a dynamic, academic multi-specialty group practice providing comprehensive, multi-disciplinary care for patients supported by state-of-the-art technology, advanced diagnostic tools and treatment options, and the new Carilion Taubman Cancer Center which we anticipate opening in 2027-2028.Based in the Level-1 763-bed trauma and academic health center, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, our program provides comprehensive surgical oncology coverage to over one million people in a large, rural, multi-state area. Surgical oncology services are also provided in several other Carilion hospitals, including Carilion New River Valley Medical Center, Carilion Giles Community Hospital, Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital, and Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital. The Division operates clinics in one location in the region, with plans to open additional sites in the future. Clinical pathology is exceptionally broad, and our surgeons perform the full breadth of procedures of all levels of complexity.Minimum Requirements

MD/DO, Board Certification/Eligible in SurgeryFellowship Training in Surgical Oncology (with a focus in hepatopancreatobiliary and advanced GI surgery preferred)At least 5 years of progressive surgical leadership in an academic setting with an academic rank of at least Associate ProfessorEvidence of strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, and leadership skillsPhysician leadership experience with emphasis on team building; development of integrated collaborative models of care, education, and research; and managing people and programs.Experience with graduate medical education is preferredCompensation and Benefits

Health/disability/liability insurance, plus paid tail. Base salary plus two-tiered bonus plan based on scorecard initiatives and production. Retirement options, including employer funded pension plan, 403(b), deferred compensation plan.Location Description
