Transactions Attorney

is responsible for supporting the association’s real estate leasing and facilities management needs, as well as other commercial transactions as assigned. This position will report to the VP and Associate General Counsel for Commercial Transactions. The ideal candidate will have a blended transactional background with experience in leasing and in drafting, negotiating, and mitigating legal risk in a range of other commercial transactions.Responsibilities

Identifies legal risk.Analyzes and researches legal issues.Reviews and negotiates contracts.Provides legal guidance on membership issues.Provides legal guidance on nonprofit tax law.Provides legal guidance on intellectual property matters.Qualifications

JD degree and 5+ years of experience in real estate and commercial transactions.Must be, or able to become, a member in good standing with the District of Columbia bar or an equivalent state bar.Excellent analytical, research, and writing abilities.Strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills.Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential.Must operate with the highest degree of integrity and ethical standards; passion for our nonprofit mission is a plus.Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously while maintaining high volumes of work and attention to detail.AARP will not sponsor an employment visa for this position at this time.Additional Requirements
