Institution Counselor 3 - Habilitative Mental Health Treatment Program (HMHTP)Are you the Institution Counselor we are looking for to join

Western State Hospital ? In this role, you will use your critical thinking and counseling skills to improve the lives of patients with Behavioral Health challenges. Here is your chance to be part of a compassionate team that promotes recovery principles and develops therapeutic relationships with our patients.The IC3s in the Habilitative Mental Health Treatment Program (HMHTP) will be providing care to patients in the HMHTP, who have intellectual and developmental disabilities with co-occurring mental illnesses and/or severe challenging behaviors. The IC3 will provide active habilitative treatment that involves teaching new developmental skills and abilities, such as learning activities surrounding daily living, coping strategies for dealing with feelings/emotions, social skills, recreational skills, and job readiness.Habilitative treatment occurs with all interactions with HMHTP patients and may be conducted in small groups or individual intervention.Western State Hospital

.Schedule is swing shift 2:30pm-11:00pm and this role is located in Civil Ward W1S.Some of what you'll doCounsel HMHTP clients daily, implementing the Habilitation and Positive Behavioral Support Models by providing active habilitative treatment.Utilize small group or individual modalities to achieve Active Treatment goals and objectives identified in the clients' Individual Habilitation (treatment) Plan.Independently plan, schedule, organize, and coordinate Habilitative activities both on and off the unit to achieve treatment goals and objectives.Develop client's safety plan.Independently modify client's treatment contract to facilitate positive treatment outcomes.Actively participate in treatment team and Clinical Team meetings by supplying updates of the client's progress.Complete charting regarding assigned clients for general observations, weekly progress, summary notes, or incidents observed.Support clients in a variety of settings both on- and off-grounds, including community integration activities and appointments that allow the client to demonstrate newly developed skills.Provide a safe and therapeutic environment and respond to client safety needs, including the need for physical intervention during emergency behavioral or medical situations, as they occur.Who should apply?

Professionals with:A Bachelor’s degree preferably involving major study in sociology or other social scienceANDTwo years of experience working with clients in a psychiatric or mental health settingOREquivalent combination of education/experience.Desired experience:Professional counseling or casework experience working with clients with intellectual/developmental disabilities, and co-occurring mental illness and/or severe challenging behaviors.Ability to work with challenging patients in a therapeutic, non-threatening manner.In-depth working knowledge of group and individual behavior and dynamics.Experience with compiling and preparing reports on client's progress, making treatment recommendations for assigned clients, and providing input regarding discharge readiness.Interested?
