Job Details

The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of accounting & financial management, with a focus on fixed asset accounting, financial statement preparation, financial reporting, GAAP accounting, and leveraging their expertise in the retail industry. NetSuite ERP and COGS accounting experience are both required for success in this position.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the general ledger close process for both domestic and international entities, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting. Manage reconciliation tasks, address discrepancies, and streamline month-end and year-end closing procedures to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive financial reports on a monthly basis to the Executive Leadership Team. Analyze financial performance metrics, provide insightful commentary, and recommend strategies for financial improvement.
  • Develop and maintain detailed operational expenditure (OPEX) and capital expenditure (CAPEX) budgets. Prepare forecasts by department, incorporating historical data and market trends to support strategic planning and financial decision-making.
  • Monitor and report on EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization), ensuring accurate calculation and interpretation. Provide actionable insights and recommendations to optimize financial performance.
  • Oversee interactions with external accounting firms and manage the in-house accounting team. Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing, compliance with wage and tax regulations, and efficient handling of accounting transactions.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously refine internal financial controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial regulations. Conduct regular reviews and updates to internal control procedures.
  • Take ownership of the ERP system implementation and management. Collaborate with various departments to design and optimize workflows, ensuring the system supports operational efficiency and financial accuracy.
  • Partner with external accounting firms to develop and implement tax strategies. Plan for tax liabilities, ensure compliance with tax regulations, and optimize tax positions.
  • Implement and manage a Duty Drawback program, ensuring compliance with customs regulations and optimizing the recovery of duties paid on imported goods.
  • Oversee inventory management processes, conduct regular audits, and implement process improvements to ensure accurate inventory records and efficient inventory control.
  • Administer domestic and international insurance policies, ensuring adequate coverage for company assets and operations. Evaluate insurance needs and manage policy renewals and claims.
  • Manage cost structures associated with domestic and international third-party logistics (3PL) providers. Analyze and control costs, negotiate contracts, and ensure service levels meet company standards.
  • Prepare necessary materials for tax filings and act as the primary liaison with the accounting firm. Ensure accurate and timely submission of tax documents and address any queries from tax authorities.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of relevant accounting principles and practices. Stay updated with new accounting guidance and ensure timely implementation of changes to maintain compliance.
  • Manage high volumes of credit card transactions and accounts payable processes.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Leadership Team to support company goals and objectives.

Qualifications :

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in Accounting and Finance required.
  • NetSuite ERP experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; CPA license preferred.
  • Strong technical knowledge of GAAP accounting principles and financial reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience working with multiple legal entities under various legal structures.
  • Experience working in high-growth and high-volume eCommerce environments high preferred.
  • Experience with short and long-term budgeting, forecasting, rolling budgets, and product-line profitability analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of internal control policies and procedures to ensure robust financial governance.
