Mid-Level Product Design and User Interface Patent Agent
to join their Kansas City, MO office. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in patent preparation and prosecution, particularly in cutting-edge technologies such as software, AI, IoT, and quantum technologies. This role requires solid law firm, engineering, and industry experience, as well as a high level of academic achievement, superior communication skills, and attention to detail.Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications related to product design, user interface technologies, and other advanced technological fields.Conduct in-depth research and analysis of existing patents to determine patentability and freedom to operate.Work directly with clients to identify patentable inventions and provide strategic advice on the protection of intellectual property.Draft technical descriptions, claims, and detailed patent applications that clearly outline and protect innovative design and user interface technologies.Collaborate with engineers, inventors, and stakeholders in the technology sector to understand technical concepts and turn them into patent applications.Respond to office actions from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and other patent offices worldwide.Manage all stages of the patent process, from application filing through issuance, and handle post-grant proceedings when required.Stay up-to-date with industry trends, especially in the fields of artificial intelligence, software development, quantum computing, and IoT technologies.Participate in strategy meetings to discuss the company’s intellectual property portfolio and provide insights into competitive patent landscapes.Requirements:
A minimum of 2+ years of patent preparation and prosecution experience in a law firm or in-house setting.Expertise in software-related technologies, artificial intelligence, IoT, networking, and/or quantum technologies.Strong technical background with a degree in
Physics ,
Electrical Engineering , or
Computer Science .Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced legal environment.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.Experience in working with diverse clients from startups to established corporations in high-tech industries.Education & Certifications:
Bachelor or advanced degree in
Physics ,
Electrical Engineering , or
Computer Science .Juris Doctor (JD)
and admission to the
United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
are required.Additional certifications in relevant technical areas (optional but beneficial).Skills:
