Job Summary:
This position reports to the Assistant Dean of the Career Development Office (CDO Dean) and works closely in all aspects of operating the Career Development Office (CDO), including executive, strategic, operational, and administrative decision-making and oversight. The position involves directing and overseeing numerous programs, initiatives, and efforts, while maintaining the strategic vision of the CDO Dean. The position is central to the success of the office, both in terms of day-to-day operations and in achieving long-term objectives. This position has the primary day-to-day responsibility for managing the operations of the CDO, overseeing student and alumni counseling, student and alumni employment data collection, and program creation and execution. The position assists and advises the CDO Dean in establishing the budget and tracking expenditures. The position is involved in extensive outreach to stakeholders, establishing and cultivating strong relationships to provide extensive employment opportunities for students and alumni. This position ensures continuity and quality customer service between internal College of Law departments, university departments, the legal community, students, and other stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
Executive Management:
Assists CDO Dean in the development of a budget, supervises expenditures, and maintains fiscal records; reviews and signs-off on in-office budget reports; provides supervision and training of Career Development staff; helps track trends and changes in the local and national legal economy; supervises CDO office in CDO Dean’s absence; establishes internal objectives and implements procedures to meet goals.
Program Management & Design:
Plans, coordinates, and conducts topical and innovative programming and networking events; utilizes area attorneys and alumni to serve as panelists and hosts for programs; presents at job seeking and professional workshops.
Career Counseling:
Meets regularly with law students and alumni to provide career counseling and support; assists in identifying individual career goals; fosters connections between students and employers; provides career advising on the job-search process.
Employer Outreach & Support:
Develops contacts with external organizations to expand employment opportunities; manages and executes Fall & Spring On-Campus Interview recruiting seasons; hosts large-scale career fairs annually.
Employment Tracking & Data Reporting:
Collects and maintains student and graduate employment records; ensures timely submission of employment reports to external entities.
Work Environment and Level of Frequency typically required:
Nearly Continuously: Office environment.
Physical Requirements and Level of Frequency that may be required:
Nearly Continuously: Sitting, hearing, listening, talking. Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking. Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related area, or equivalency; eight years of progressively more responsible management experience; demonstrated leadership, human relations, and effective communications skills required.
Preferences:
JD preferred; Utah State Bar licensed preferred; six years of progressively more responsible management experience; proficiency in making daily operational decisions.
