Role:

The Human Resources Director (HR Director) leads the HR department and oversees all human resources functions across the organization. The HR Director is responsible for developing and executing HR strategy, managing employee relations, ensuring legal compliance, and fostering a positive organizational culture. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Operations and serves as a strategic partner to the executive leadership team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership:

Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with ITAVs mission and goals.

Serve as a trusted advisor to the executive leadership team on HR matters, providing insights and recommendations on workforce planning, organizational design, and employee engagement.

Participate in long-term strategic planning initiatives and Governing Board meetings as required.

Lead diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts across the organization to create an inclusive workplace.

HR Policy & Compliance:

Ensure all HR policies and procedures are in compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, as well as DCFS, ISBE, DFSS, and additional funders regulations.

Oversee the administration of all HR-related legal matters, including workers compensation, IDES, I-9 compliance, and employee investigations.

Ensure adherence to all regulatory and organizational standards, keeping abreast of changes in HR legislation and advising the executive team accordingly.

Talent Acquisition & Management:

Proactively source, attract, and hire high-quality candidates that align with ITAV's mission and culture. Utilize innovative recruitment methods, including digital platforms, community outreach, and partnerships with educational institutions.

Create and implement structured onboarding programs that effectively integrate new employees into the organization, ensuring they understand their roles, responsibilities, and the broader mission of ITAV.

Oversee job postings, candidate screening, interviewing, reference checks, and selection, ensuring a smooth and efficient hiring process while collaborating with departments to identify staffing needs and tailor recruitment efforts accordingly.

Oversee the administration of 30-day, 90-day, and annual performance reviews and collaborate with managers to set clear performance expectations, provide ongoing feedback, and create development plans that foster employee growth and productivity.

Identify high-potential employees and work with leadership to create development plans that prepare them for future leadership roles within the organization.

Offer guidance and training to managers on effective talent management practices, including performance management, conflict resolution, and team-building strategies.

Employee Relations & Engagement:

Foster a positive and productive work environment through effective communication and conflict resolution.

Manage employee relations, addressing issues such as grievances, disciplinary actions, and terminations in a fair and consistent manner.

Organize staff appreciation events, health and wellness activities, and other employee engagement initiatives to enhance morale and retention.

Payroll & Compensation:

Oversee payroll processing for all sites, ensuring accuracy and compliance with payroll laws and regulations.

Manage the compensation structure, including salary scales, benefit deductions, and budget forecasting for payroll expenses.

Implement and manage ADP systems for efficient payroll and HR data management.

Benefits Administration:

Manage employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, and retirement plans.

Coordinate open enrollments, new hire enrollments, adjustments, and COBRA compliance.

Reconcile and process benefit payments, ensuring timely and accurate administration.

Training & Professional Development:

Develop and implement a comprehensive professional development program that supports the growth of all staff members.

Conduct quarterly audits of site Professional Development Logs and track individual development plans.

Provide training and resources for managers on HR policies, procedures, and best practices.

Process Improvement:

Continuously evaluate HR processes and systems, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions.

Manage the HR calendar, ensuring timely execution of all cyclical and annual initiatives.

Monitor and report on HR metrics to inform decision-making and improve overall HR performance.

Position Type:

Full-Time

Required Education & Training

Masters degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field

HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR) preferred.

Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a senior HR role, preferably within a school district or educational setting.

Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws, including those specific to Illinois.

Proven experience in strategic HR planning, talent management, and employee relations.

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.

Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on process improvement.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

Proficiency in HRIS and payroll systems (e.g., PayCom, COPA, CDS Cares,etc.).

Salary Range:

$85,000-$110,000
