GENERAL PURPOSE:
Performs a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled drainage work, and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City drainage facilities and systems.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Receives direct supervision from Superintendent Street/Drainage.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use.
Drives trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, gravel, rock and sand.
Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment.
Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew.
Operates a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment used in drainage maintenance and repair.
Operation of motorized vehicles and equipment to include tractors with shredders and brush chipper.
Inspects and repairs on drainage systems at frequent intervals to insure that all aspects of the systems are functioning properly.
Use weed eaters, pole saws and chain saws as required trimming trees, brush and vegetation.
Hauls materials as required.
Mixes concrete and performs repair work.
On call schedule required.
Operation of street sweeper.
The employee must have the ability to work well with others and have a good/pleasant attitude.
Performs other essential duties as required to achieve successful operations of the department and
to perform labor duties when not operating construction equipment.
Must be able to follow directions.
Regular and timely attendance is an essential job function.
PERIPHERAL DUTIES:
Serves as a member of various employee committees as assigned.
Performs backup duties for related positions as required.
Other Duties as assigned.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or equivalent;
One (1) year of light equipment operation and maintenance; or,
Any equivalent combination of education and experience;
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair activities;
Skill in operation of some of the listed tools and equipment;
Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time;
Ability to work safely;
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public;
Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions must have good attitude;
Ability to handle several duties at once and prioritize jobs.
SELECTION GUIDELINES:

Motorized vehicles and equipment, including zero turn riding mowers, dump truck, pickup truck, utility truck, tamper, plate compactor, saws, pumps, compressors, sanders, generators, common hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, chain saws, mobile radio, phone, ditch witch, and weed eaters.

With insects, snakes and other wildlife.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
