JOB DESCRIPTION

The Providence Public School District (PPSD) serves approximately 22,000 students attending our 37 schools. PPSD employs more than 3,200 professionals who work in and provide support to our schools, which include 20 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, 11 high schools and 2 public district charter schools. Of our employees, approximately 2,000 are educators, and more than 600 others directly support students and families in our schools.

The

Executive Director of Professional Development, Evaluation and Leadership

will be responsible for the oversight and expansion of these three distinct areas of work.

The Executive Director of Professional Development, Evaluation and Leadership is a role housed in the Office of Human Resources. The Executive Director will report to the Chief Talent Officer for the district and will supervise a team of staff who work on matters related to professional development, new teacher induction training, evaluation of all district employees, and/or licensure, leadership development and support.

The Executive Director of Professional Development, Evaluation and Leadership will support PPSD in rolling out a robust set of training, tools, and resources for school leaders around supervision, providing just-in-time support to better understand supervision and evaluation needs; translate those needs into better tools and resources that can be deployed by the central office.This position is based out of the central administration office with an exact work location TBD.

The work hours are 8:00am-4:00pm.

This is a certified position.

Masters degree

requiredExperience in large, urban district would be great to have on the teamExperience as a school leader and evaluator is preferred although it isn’t requiredExperience with the Rhode Island Innovation Evaluation and Support System is preferred although it isn’t requiredStrong ability to manage multiple projects and deliverables, and navigate through a certain level of ambiguitySound planning and resource management skillsStrong verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skillsSelf-starter who requires a minimum level of supervisory oversightWillingness to travel and work evenings and weekendsDemonstrated commitment to urban K-12 educationExperience in large, urban district would be great to have on the team

Professional Development and Induction:

Oversee the management of new teacher and new leaders induction programming and supportsProvide training and resources for educators new to the District; including development of systems and support toolsManage new teacher support programs such as the New Teacher Ambassadors and the New Teacher Induction Facilitators Licensure.Oversee the state licensure requirements to ensure that staff in certified positions hold an accurate and current state issued certificateOversee the District’s application process for emergency and expert residence certificatesOversee the completion of state renewal requirements for certification renewalManage the District’s certification reimbursement programProvide training and resources for educators on an emergency or expert residency certificationManage certification support programs such as the Praxis examination voucher programEvaluation:

Oversee the management of the evaluation systemsOversee the data aspects of the evaluation systems to ensure that the District is in compliance with state lawDevelop evaluation systems and support toolsProvide training and resources for all evaluation systemsMonitor the implementation of all evaluation systems with integrityManage the Peer Assistance and Review Program (PAR)Serve as Co-Chair for the District Teacher Evaluation Committee (DTEC)Serve as Co-Chair for the District Evaluation Committee (DEC) for School LeaderServe as Co-Chair for the Peer Assistance and Review Panel (PAR Panel)Leadership:

Support professional development for PPSD leaders, specifically providing training in supervision and evaluationIn coordination with HR and legal staff, work with leaders to develop long-term plans for supervising and evaluating employeesWork with legal staff and HR team members to develop training related to supervision and evaluation, including conducting investigations, holding grievance/disciplinary hearings, developing performance improvement plans, and progressive disciplineDevelop tools and resources, such as templates, form letters, or tracking/organizing documents to enable better employee supervision and evaluation.Provide ongoing support for leadership development, supervision and evaluationLeverage experiences/learnings from working closely with leaders to develop professional development tools and resources for all leadersProviding just-in-time support to leadersProvide in the moment support when leaders have concerns or challenges at their schools related to supervision and evaluation
