We are seeking a skilled Purchasing Agent to join our team and play a key role in managing the procurement process for our fire truck manufacturing operations.
Job Summary:
The Purchasing Agent will be responsible for sourcing and purchasing materials and components specifically for the fire truck manufacturing process. This role requires expertise in managing specific commodity groups, collaborating with suppliers, and ensuring timely delivery of quality materials to meet production schedules.
Key Responsibilities:
Procurement Management:
o Source, evaluate, and select suppliers for materials and components specific to fire truck manufacturing (e.g., chassis, tanks, pump mods, bodies, etc).
o Negotiate contracts and pricing with suppliers to achieve cost-effective purchases while maintaining quality standards.
Supplier Relationship Management:
o Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure reliable supply chains and quickly address any issues that arise.
o Monitor supplier performance and conduct regular assessments to ensure compliance with company standards and KPIs.
Inventory Control:
o Coordinate with production and inventory management teams to forecast material needs and maintain optimal inventory levels.
o Implement strategies for inventory turnover and minimize excess stock.
Market Research :
o Conduct market research to identify trends, evaluate market conditions, and assess new suppliers and technologies.
o Stay informed about industry best practices and regulatory requirements affecting the purchasing process.
Collaboration:
o Work closely with engineering, production, and quality assurance teams to ensure material specifications meet production requirements.
o Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support project timelines and quality goals.
Reporting and Documentation:
o Maintain accurate records of purchases, supplier agreements, and inventory levels.
o Prepare and present reports on purchasing activities, savings achieved, and supplier performance metrics to management.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
•Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
•Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a purchasing agent or buyer, preferably within the manufacturing sector, with specific experience in fire truck manufacturing or related industries.
•Strong negotiation skills and the ability to manage complex contracts.
•Proficient in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with ERP systems is a plus.
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
•Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail.
•Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
