The Benefits Specialist is responsible for assisting with the administration of all benefits and retirement programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability and retirement plans. They will provide administrative support to the HR function as needed (e.g., correspondence generation, record keeping, file maintenance, HRIS entry) ensuring plans are administered in accordance with federal and state regulations and plan provisions are followed. Working within established practices and a broader scope of work, this position will demonstrate initiative on moderate problem solving of assigned tasks. They will contribute to projects and work through their proficient knowledge and application of human resource concepts and techniques.Position Reports To:
Benefits SupervisorEssential Functions:Respond to benefits inquiries including retirement from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes and assist employees regarding benefits claim issues and plan changes.Strive to ensure employee understanding of benefits programs by regularly generating communication and counseling employees/dependents as situations arise. Provide guidance to coworkers, employees, and other key stakeholders on various human resource issues.Lead new-hire orientations, assist with annual enrollment, and enroll employees with carriers during life status changes. Distribute and recommend updates to benefits enrollment materials to enhance ability to navigate determination of eligibility.Ensure accurate and timely processing and data entry of information from multiple sources and maintain documentation support (e.g. HSA funding, retirement deferrals, benefit elections). Make recommendations about broader situations according to professional principles.Maintain and develop new and existing relationships with benefit vendors to ensure elections, processes and inquiries are completed in an efficient manner while following plan document requirements.Able to generate benefit and employee reports utilizing HRMS and Microsoft Office Suite. Prepares reports, processes and tools that are the key outcomes of important projects.Help develop standard work, user procedures, guidelines and documentation. Gives effective presentations to general audiences and writes convincing proposals and reports.Administer the tuition assistance benefit program and provide critical data for program design changes. Work with external vendors to create university partnerships in order to provide schooling resources and site visits.Recommend process/customer service improvements, innovative solutions, policy changes and/or major variations from established policy that must be approved by appropriate leadership prior to implementation. Serve as a liaison with third parties and other stakeholders (e.g. Talent Acquisition, Employee Relations).Develop project management skills while providing support in various HR initiatives. Work on more complicated projects or assignments that require specialized professional knowledge to synthesize and interpret information.Maintain awareness of current trends in benefits with a focus on product and service development, delivery and support, and applying key knowledge. Examine trends in information systems training, materials and techniques.Other duties as assigned.Demonstrate Standards of Behavior and adhere to the Code of Conduct in all aspects of job performance at all times.Qualifications:Required:Experience in Human Resources/Office Administration or related degree.Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.Desired:Not Specified.
