Microsoft Systems Engineer

CFC has a need for a Microsoft Systems Engineer to join the Business Technology Services team. This is a hybrid position requiring onsite work at our headquarters office in Sterling, VA, as well as optional remote workdays. The Microsoft Systems Engineer is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software and related infrastructure in cloud environments. This individual also participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure.
As a Microsoft Systems Engineer, you will:
• Design, recommend, plan and implement enhancements to the systems infrastructure.
• Responsible for the installation, configuration and maintenance, including recognizing and troubleshooting problems of Windows operating systems.
• Recognize and troubleshoot problems with server hardware and applications software.
• Establish and document standards and procedures for management review.
• Daily administration tasks in SharePoint such as adding users, controlling access to document libraries, and setting permissions.
• Manage and secure servers and systems to ensure sound and secure computing practices are in place.
• Evaluate and analyze system performance and metrics to recommend service improvements.
To be successful, you will need:
• Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or related technical degree, or equivalent work experience required.
• 7 years of experience as a Windows Server Administrator in cloud environments.
• Ability to perform troubleshooting and analysis with little supervision.
• Knowledge of server, network architecture and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of cloud-based architectures (Azure, AWS).
• Support applications and infrastructure on IaaS and PaaS platforms.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Servers, Active Directory (Azure AD), and VMware.
• Knowledge of information security principles and virtualization technologies.
• Ability to create and troubleshoot shell scripts in Powershell or Python.
• Ability to automate changes to address security vulnerabilities.
• Provide security management of cloud applications.
• Knowledge of how software, hardware and network integrate in cloud with in-house systems.
• Knowledge of O365, SharePoint, IIS, SQL Server skills.
• Knowledge of SharePoint Online and the ability to support it.
• Ability to create system context diagrams and documentation.
• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Evaluate cost/benefits of using cloud vs on premise systems.
• Implement cloud services integrating them with in-house applications.
• Detail oriented with ability to collect and analyze information and present results.
• Ability to work independently and ability to escalate to management when necessary.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of cloud technologies.
• Ability to establish new and document existing processes and procedures.
• Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with internal and external customers.
