Summary
Faculty members are responsible for providing students with a rich, relevant and engaging academic experience. The faculty role encompasses teaching, student outcomes assessment, curriculum development, student advising, and university service. Faculty continuously engage in professional development while maintaining current expertise in the applicable content area and developing students through effective and innovative teaching and learning practices.
This is a 12-month, full time CORE faculty appointment at the rank of assistant/associate professor. Responsibilities include teaching evidenced based evaluation and management for individuals with neurological conditions within the Johnson & Wales Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. Faculty will also be responsible for academic advising, research/scholarship and service as described by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).

Demonstrates specialized knowledge and maintains expertise in the theory, skills, and pedagogy of the applicable discipline or professionUses strategies and skills necessary to support student learning and prepares and delivers current and relevant course material in an understandable and motivating mannerContinually assesses course objectives and instructional methods to improve teaching and learningUses formative and summative assessments of student learning within assigned courses to inform instruction and improve student attainment of course objectives and program outcomesEstablishes a student and advisor relationship that provides guidance with regard to program choices and career possibilities and supports student educational growth through guided decision makingSupports the university's outcomes initiatives by working to refine and revise course assignments and evaluation tools and leading or participating in data analysis discussions to make program and course improvementsFacilitates development and revision of programs and courses, assuring alignment within the program description and outcomes, course objectives and content, as well as university curriculum standardsAttends commencement, convocation, faculty meetings, department meetings, committee meetings, professional development programs, and other university events, as applicableSupports student enrollment and retention by participating in university events, advising student clubs and organizations, and assisting with admissions activitiesAdheres to and fulfills the responsibilities of all faculty members as outlined in the faculty manualPerforms other duties as assignedEssential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Teaches neurological physical therapy content to students within the programAssesses student's mastery of neurological content throughout the curriculumEnsures that the curriculum's neurologic content is contemporary and evidence basedCollects, prepares and furnishes data and relevant information about the neurological content within the curriculum to the Program Director in order to ensure compliance with Program, University or the Commission on Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) standardsRequired Qualifications
Earned terminal degree (Ph.D., D.Sc., Ed.D. or equivalent) from a regionally accredited institution or Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree with a specialist certification from The American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS)/board certification. Eligible doctoral candidates (Ph.D., D.Sc., or Ed.D.) are also encouraged to apply.Clinical experience as a licensed physical therapistActive RI physical therapy license or eligibility to obtain such licensureValid U.S. driver's licensePreferred Qualifications
Three or more years of clinical experienceEntry-level physical therapy education teaching experienceExcellent communication, time management and organizational skillsAbility to work independently with numerous projects/tasks with little or no supervisionAbility to work in a team environment and promote collaborationWillingness to model core values and take an active role in enforcing program, college and university policiesAbility to effectively interact with university support services
