Overview:
The Senior Development Manager of Corporate Alliances assumes a vital role within the AACR Foundation, the fundraising division of the AACR. This role involves conducting prospect research, overseeing portfolios, analyzing data, conducting market research, fostering revenue generation, and preparing reports for colleagues and senior department leaders. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and cultivating new industry partnerships, managing existing relationships, and developing strategies to increase revenue from industry partners.The AACR Foundation is seeking a skilled, experienced, dynamic, and results-driven professional who will focus on building and maintaining new relationships to increase revenue from industry partners in the pharmaceutical, biotech, diagnostics, and oncology solutions sectors for various AACR program activities such as scientific grants/awards, conferences, and patient advocacy initiatives. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, aiming to maximize and secure new industry support while engaging industry clients in a long-term partnership with the AACR.The Senior Development Manager, Corporate Alliances, will leverage their understanding of the biomedical research ecosystem, knowledge of the pharmaceutical/biotech industry, and fundraising skills to cultivate and nurture relationships with key industry organizations and leaders in support of the AACR's mission. This will ultimately result in increased revenue for AACR program activities. This individual will also play a key role in developing and managing new strategic alliances and collaborating with colleagues across the organization to identify synergies where possible. They will work with the Assistant Director and Director of Corporate Alliances to manage a portfolio of accounts and develop collateral and programs tailored to the unique interests of AACRs industry partners. Additionally, under the guidance of the Assistant Director, Corporate Alliances, the incumbent will establish an efficient system for prospect research and build a robust prospect pipeline.Collaboration and strategic thinking are integral to success in this role. The Senior Development Manager is expected to be a collaborative and strategic member of the Corporate Alliances team and the AACR Foundation department. Some local and national travel may be required, mainly to attend leading scientific meetings and engage industry clients in face-to-face visits. In addition, the individual will serve as a managerial-level staff member of the AACR Foundation, acting as a mentor for junior staff and upholding a professional and positive demeanor as an ambassador for the AACR.Responsibilities:Develop new relationships with various potential AACR partners in the pharmaceutical/biotech space and maintain a comprehensive familiarity with all relevant funding channels and contacts at each account. Translates these new relationships into the growth of AACR revenue and other effective partnerships.Engage in high-touch outreach with minimal direction while seeking regular review and input from supervisor. Develops high-quality written proposals.Leverage scientific expertise and knowledge of AACR meetings, conferences, grants, and other key scientific priorities to establish new relationships.Prospect for specific AACR programs and initiatives including AACR Special Conferences, working groups, and more.Research emerging companies within the biopharmaceutical sector as needed and identify/prioritize companies of interest.Maintain awareness of oncology industry trends and work to understand their impact on clients.Act as liaison between AACR, AACR Foundation, and external contacts. Works with all relevant parties to track and manage grant deliverables and financial reports.Perform other tasks as may be assigned and required.Qualifications:
Three to five years of experience that includes general knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and the oncology marketplace and a conceptual understanding of the drug development and commercialization process.Demonstrated skill in developing new partnershipsExcellent communication skills, including the ability to work with diverse individuals and the ability to synthesize complex scientific contentAbility to work simultaneously with different internal and external partners with differing needs.Ability to develop benchmarks and short? and long-term tracking metrics for fundraising success in partnership with the Assistant Director, Corporate AlliancesPassion for AACRs mission to prevent and cure cancer
Masters Degree, other advanced degree, or equivalent experiencePreferred at least three years of successful experience in fundraising, corporate engagement, sales, and/or executive relationship development.Background in biomedical sciences, communications, sales, business, marketing, or another relevant field is helpful. Any combination of relevant experiences will be considered.Exceptional relationship-building and networking skills, with a strong emphasis on listening to stakeholders goals and objectives.Ability to engage in discussions with prominent scientific figures regarding scientific priorities and agendas.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPointExperience using fundraising software to track proposals and information related to prospects preferred.Strong research skills and attention to detailExceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skillsExcellent organizational and time management skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a team
