Summary:The Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP) at Alabama A&M University is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Outreach Coordinator. This full-time role involves connecting GWEP with the surrounding community, developing strategic relationships, and promoting geriatric education and health initiatives. The Outreach Coordinator will play a key role in planning and implementing outreach activities, engaging with stakeholders, and increasing the program's visibility.Examples of Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Community Engagement:
Build and maintain relationships with local healthcare providers, community organizations, and other stakeholders.Represent GWEP at community events, health fairs, and conferences to promote geriatric health initiatives.Organize and participate in outreach activities to raise awareness about geriatric health issues and resources.Community Education:
Manage and provide training opportunities for healthcare workers in rural and underserved areas.Coordinate community workshops and educational sessions focused on geriatric care and dementia awareness.Support agencies in achieving age-friendly and dementia-friendly recognition.Program Coordination:
Plan, organize, and implement events, workshops, and training sessions related to geriatric care.Collaborate with faculty, staff, and external partners to create and update outreach materials and educational content.Recruit and manage volunteers for outreach activities.Public Relations and Marketing:
Develop and distribute marketing materials to promote GWEP initiatives.Maintain and update the GWEP website and social media platforms to ensure current and accurate information.Collaborate with the communications team to enhance the program's visibility through various media channels.Administrative Support:
Assist in preparing and submitting grant applications and funding proposals.Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, participant data, and program outcomes.Provide administrative support for meetings, including scheduling, agenda preparation, and minute-taking.Data Collection and Analysis:
Collect and analyze data on local demographics, outreach effectiveness, and program impact.Prepare reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders based on data findings.Typical Qualifications
Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.):
Master's degree in social work, Public Health, Gerontology, or a related field.
Licensure preferred (LMSW or LICSW).
Minimum of 2-years of experience in project coordination, healthcare administration, or a related field. Experience in managing grants and budgets is highly desirable. Prior experience working with older adults and knowledge of geriatric health issues is a plus.Supplemental Information
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working with diverse stakeholders. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with data management systems.Ability to travel locally for site visits and community outreach activities. Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed to meet program demands.
