Objective of the Job:The Assistant Environmental Manager supports the Company and its employees with complying with local, state, and federal regulations.Job Duties and Responsibilities:1) Understanding Health, Safety, Environmental, ResponsibleSteel and Quality programs while developing or executing strategies to address issues and how they can be integrated into the business plan.2) Knowledge of ResponsibleSteel requirements for reduction of environmental impacts and energy reduction, concerns for local communities and stakeholders, and/or preservation of diversity.3) Assist with the development, implementation and updating of required written environmental policies, procedures, and programs.4) Lead the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and cross-functional team and corresponding audits, as serve as the Company's Environmental Management Representative (EMR)5) Manage the U.S. EPA RCRA and DOT compliance programs sitewide, including performing required governmental reporting on time, coordination and/or development of employee training materials6) Maintain required environmental compliance documents, training records and files7) Coordinate annual air emissions testing and reporting8) Participate in project management and cost-saving initiatives9) Manage the solid waste and recycling program10) Contribute to the other ISO systems and support new certification programs11) Carry out impact assessments to identify, assess and reduce environmental risks and financial costsQualifications:1) Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or Engineering and/or related field from four-year college or university.2) In-depth knowledge of EPA and DOT guidelines and practices and government reporting3) Working knowledge of OSHA guidelines and regulations as it relates to hazardous materials and environmental requirements4) Understand and utilize systems to carry out problem solving5) Manage projects as well as produce and deliver presentations6) Strong verbal, written and analytical skills7) Ability to train, influence and motivate team members8) Competent in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Outlook9) Able to contribute positively as part of a team, helping with various tasks as requiredWorking Conditions and Physical Requirements:This position occasionally requires employee to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position requires a valid driver's license, occasional in and out of state/out of country travel. This position requires employee to be primary environmental emergency responder, which may include irregular hours due to the nature of the incident or working under stressful, fast-paced and/or inclement weather conditions.Supervisory Responsibility:This position does supervise others.
