SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST

SALARY:

Per Bargaining Agreement based on education and years of experience

Part I: QUALIFICATIONS:Education:

M.A. or M.S. Degree in Speech Language PathologyMust be eligible for or possess a valid Washington State Educational Staff Associate Certificate and CCC or CFYExperience:

Experience with preschool, K-12 students with special needs, desiredExperience with assistive technology, desiredSuccessful experience as a Speech Language Pathologist preferredPart II: SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

Have appropriate knowledge of speech/language assessments, materials, equipment, and other resourcesDemonstrated interest in and evidence of continued personal and professional growthAbility to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectationsWorks well with others from diverse backgroundsDemonstrated ability to successfully work with and teach students and staffAbility to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in EnglishAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, IEPs, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, governmental regulations and professional journalsAbility to write routine reports and correspondenceEvidence of providing for student individual learning stylesEvidence of training and experience utilizing computer technology for word processing, grading, recording attendance, communicating by e-mail, and implementing these computer programs into daily use in the classroomEvidence of motivating and instructing students of all ability levels with emphasis on providing for their individual learning styles-basic levels to extensions beyond basicsEvidence of maintaining a positive, productive learning climate within the classroom as well as with parents and colleagueDemonstrate mature behavior and ability to use sound judgment in working with parents, students, staff, and communityKnowledge of child developmentAbility to maintain appropriate student supervision so that students have a safe and orderly environment in which to learnAbility to maintain confidentialityAbility to perform all duties in accordance with applicable Board policies and District and legal requirements.Part III: ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Provides speech and language services in the areas of student assessment, direct therapy, training and consultation for staff, parents, and equipment fabrication or adaptation to enable students to function to their highest possible level within the educational systemIs part of the District Evaluation/Assessment Team and is responsible for evaluation of new referral students.Measures and assesses the speech, language, fluency, hearing, and voice development of children, and interprets the results to appropriate individualsDiagnoses speech, language and hearing disabilities, and collaborates in the planning, development and implementation of therapeutic programsAssists in identifying and classifying of disabled children and collaborates in the planning of appropriate educational and social placements and programsConsults with individual children, families and staffParticipates in the development, implementation and evaluation of all aspects and levels of the school curriculum as it applies to children with disabilities, including the setting of priorities and the writing of specific behavioral goals and objectivesParticipates in Child Find and screening of communication skillsParticipates in continuous assessment of students receiving special education programs and servicesEncourages and initiates research, and helps utilize findings in the solution of school problemsMakes appropriate referrals to outside agencies, if neededComplies with all requirements of WAC's including time lines and appropriate report writing such as report assessments,, IEP's on IEP Online, and Medicaid billingInterprets & follows WAC's as they relate to speech/language studentsDevelops and implements an effective communication system with parents/guardiansSupervision of children on playground and in hallways and/or bus duty when assigned by building principalSupervises the services given by the Speech and Language Assistant, if applicableActively participates as a building and district employee at staff meetings, PLC's and trainingsAble to design communication boards and other communication devices for studentsPlan and instruct communication labs in preschool settingConsult and work with other SLP's and staff in meeting special education goals and objectivesPart IV: OTHER DUTIES

Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings and other professional activitiesParticipates in various student and parent activities which occur in school including PTA, student clubs and after- school activitiesCreates an effective learning environment through student recruitment, dynamic learning opportunities, and student relationshipsPerforms other duties as assigned by principal or appropriate administrator
