Two Harbors is seeking a Controller to provide leadership and oversight of its accounting function. A successful candidate must possess strong leadership attributes with the ability to influence senior leadership and collaborate across multiple functional areas.
The ideal candidate should have experience across the mortgage industry, including mortgage lending, mortgage servicing and mortgage-backed securities. Although not mandatory, the position would benefit from an understanding of REIT requirements, and the various restrictions placed on Two Harbors' activities. Most importantly, the candidate must demonstrate intellectual capacity to collaborate on complex matters and problem-solve, be detail-oriented with the ability to manage priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, evolving environment. In addition, the candidate must promote a positive work culture, mentor team members in the accounting function, and develop internal and external relationships.
Responsibilities
Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial reporting, including periodic SEC filings and supplementary reporting for audit committee, counterparties, management, etc.Maintain accounting policies and procedures and support technical accounting research necessary to maintain GAAP and SEC compliance, including application of new accounting standardsManage monthly financial close process, including general ledger maintenance and reporting, consolidations and trend/variance analysisServe as direct liaison with external auditorsAssist investor relations with external communicationsTeam with internal and outsourced IT functions to expand back-office technology and further automate critical accounting systems and reportingPartner with FP&A to build forecasting models using automated reports and data from systemsWork with internal legal counsel on financing agreements, intercompany transactions, and 1940 Act testingEngage with industry peers, Accounting system software vendors, and relevant industry groupsQualifications
Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance or related field. CPA and/or MBA preferredPublic accounting experience required, preferably Big 410+ years in the financial services industry, preferably with a focus on the U.S. mortgage market (investment in mortgage-related products, mortgage loan origination, servicing and financing) and in a public company environmentStrong problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to exercise sound judgement and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.Strong process management skills with experience in designing and managing projects and developing and enhancing systems, operational structure and proceduresStrong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate and manage at all levels of the organizationStrong verbal and written communication skills.
