Job Description

Career and Professional Development (CPD) at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) is seeking candidates for a program coordinator. The Program Coordinator reports to the Director of Professional Development and Experiential Initiatives.

The Professional Development and Experiential Programs team conceptualizes and executes programs, services, and resources that help Virginia Tech students gain meaningful career experiences, develop beneficial professional networks, and prepare for a successful transition into the workforce. This team oversees programs that facilitate work-based learning for Virginia Tech students and collaborates with campus partners to advance curricular and co-curricular experiential learning initiatives. The Professional Development and Experiential Programs team also consults with employers and organizations offering work-based learning opportunities to students - supporting the development of meaningful work-based learning opportunities.

The Program Coordinator will coordinate various experiential and professional development programming including program design, implementation, resource allocation, timeline, and assessment of programs and events. Responsible for coordinating programs aimed at providing work-based learning opportunities for students, professional competency development, and reflection on learning. Programming includes events, workshops, and specialized programs. Additionally, the Program Coordinator will support the career development of students through coaching and delivering presentations on experiential learning and professional development topics.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree. Strong communication skills including public speaking, presentations, and facilitating. Excellent administrative skills, including multi-tasking and attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively on a team. Experience with project management, event planning, and building relationships with partners and stakeholders. Experience with design software and marketing strategies. Demonstrated initiative, innovation, and intercultural and diversity appreciation. Ability to work in a fast-paced, high demand work environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree or coursework in education, counseling, marketing, communications, human resources or related field. Experience with experiential learning and/or professional development training and creating/developing new programs. Experience advising or mentoring college students and/or working in higher education.
