The Opportunity:
The Intellectual Property (IP) Paralegal will assist in legally protecting Company intellectual property through safeguards such as patents and trademarks. The IP paralegal is involved in every step of the process of IP rights protection, typically working under the supervision of a patent agent or attorney. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional for a position as an IP Paralegal in our New York office. We are looking for someone who has experience corresponding with scientists, outside counsel (US and ex-US) and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), managing docket systems, and providing general administrative support to a growing IP office.
What you'll be doing:

For this role, you will:Assist attorneys and agents in reviewing materials for documentation regarding patents, registered trademarks, copyrights and domain namesMaintain docketing entries, and organize patent files and outside counsel correspondencePrepare patent status summary reportsInteract with USPTO to record assignments, submit patent documents, and/or obtain information and materials, such as certified copies of patents, file histories and file wrappersPrepare electronic filings for documents to be submitted/recorded at USPTODraft assignment agreements and obtain necessary signatures; arrange for legalization of documents for recording in foreign patent and trademark officesFacilitate filings and monitor proceedings in the USPTO and in the European Patent OfficeInvoice management and assist attorneys and agents in preparing cost estimates for IP resources, such as subscriptions, licenses, search engines and firmsHave a willingness to work overtime, as neededPotentially travel up to 5% of the time is neededWhat we're looking for:

5+ years of Patent experience in a law firm or Corporate environment (biotech or pharma industry preferred); Trademark experience a plusBachelor's degree required preferably in a Biological ScienceWorking knowledge of BLAST search and alignment tools for biological sequencesWorking knowledge of USPTO rules and procedures, PAIR and EFS-Web; knowledge of PatentIn software (sequence listings); TESS and TSDR knowledge a plusExperience with monitoring dockets, managing patent filings and document managementWorking knowledge of Patent Docketing and Annuity Management systems (e.g. CPA, CPI, Anaqua, or equivalent system)Experience with assisting attorneys and agents in patent prosecution and patent portfolio managementKnowledge of litigation support systems a plusProficiency with Adobe Acrobat Pro, and Microsoft Office Suite, including MSWord, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.Experience with online legal, industry and scientific research tools (preferred)Notary, or willingness to obtain notary commission certificate (State of NY)Excellent research and communication skills, and strong analytical and organizational skills
