Description
The Springfield College Department of Physical Therapy invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level, ideally beginning in January, 2025. Housed in the School of Health Sciences, the Department of Physical Therapy offers a 6.5-year dual-degree program leading to both a bachelor's degree in health science/pre-physical therapy and a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. Using a collaborative and cooperative model, we are a faculty of academicians and clinicians who foster the acquisition of knowledge, values, and skills for exemplary professional practice. We develop innovative leadership and academic programs so that students, faculty, and consumers of physical therapy services may reach their fullest potential. Our service and scholarship reflect a commitment to the enrichment and promotion of the physical therapy profession and to our greater community.
In addition to physical therapy, the School of Health Sciences includes programs in physician assistant studies, occupational therapy, communication sciences and disorders, public health, gerontology, and health sciences. The School is housed in a spectacular new Health Sciences Center, featuring stellar facilities, including: an interprofessional simulation suite featuring all-new high-fidelity simulation and standardized participant programming; a maker space enabling a vast array of creative projects supporting health and wellness; an activities of daily living suite to promote real-life applications of rehabilitation and emergency medical practices; a sunlit human donor anatomy lab; classrooms, conference rooms, and several laboratories (including a data visualization lab) - all with state-of-the art technology. Interdisciplinary collaboration, professionalism, and engaged student learning, as well as global, intergenerational, and multicultural perspectives are priorities of the School. Consistent with priorities in the School and College, applicants will be required to demonstrate a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism.Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include teaching clinical and foundational science course work in our Doctor of Physical Therapy program and other graduate health science programs. Additional responsibilities include scholarly activity, student advisement and mentorship, and service to the School and College.Qualifications
Candidates are required to hold an earned academic doctorate (e.g., PhD, EdD, DSc) in a relevant field, and must be licensed or eligible for licensure in physical therapy in Massachusetts. Prior teaching experience in physical therapy, American Board of Physical Therapy Specialist (ABPTS) preferred , a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience, and a record of scholarship are preferred.
