Directorof Special Needs Dental Anesthesiology .
This positionwas created to support the
UNM Special Needs Dental Program , the primary groupin the state that provides dental services for patients requiring deep sedationor general anesthesia. Our team isdedicated to improving the health and well-being of our special needs communitythrough compassionate and comprehensive healthcare services. These services are primarily provided in themain hospital OR, the children's hospital OR, and at several ambulatory surgerycenters all within a one-mile radius of the UNM Health Sciences Center.
You will havethe opportunity to utilize your expertise in all of these clinical settings. You will work collaboratively with our medicaland dental teams to ensure the comfort and safety of our patients during dentalprocedures. This positionwill be hired at the
Open Rank level in the Clinician Educator track
to jointhe
Department of Anesthesiology with a secondary appointment in the Departmentof Dental Medicine . As the Director ofSpecial Needs Dental Anesthesiology, you will provide and oversee sedation careand general anesthesia in all operative venues in which special needs dentalprocedures are performed. This wouldgenerally include 2-3 days of clinical work in our dedicated dental ambulatorysurgery center (ASC) as well as dedicated administrative time to run theanesthesia component of our special needs dental program. Our dental ASC is a state licensed, AAAHCaccredited surgical center dedicated to outpatient dental procedures. We are fully equipped with advanced dental andmedical equipment, including digital x-rays, intraoral cameras, and electroniccharting. Our friendly staff includesexperienced dental and nursing professionals who care for each individualpatient to ensure a positive and pleasant experience.
The positionrequires a demonstrated strong clinical background performing all anesthesiamodalities and should be interested in supporting public health dentistry andsedation dentistry. The ideal candidateshould be comfortable providing general anesthesia/sedation for adults andchildren (to include special needs patients) while working with dentalresidents. Additionally, the idealcandidate would be able to demonstrate a safety record that includes pediatricand adult special needs cases. Lastly,the candidate should be knowledgeable and have demonstrated some facility withopen-airway sedations.
Responsibilities:
