Under general supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty in the regulatory program enforcing laws and ordinances concerning Animal Services and rabies control; performs related work as assigned. These positions require 100% in-person work.

ANIMAL SERVICES OFFICER IINTRODUCTION:

This is an uncertified position that will be expected to learn and execute the skills and responsibilities of an Animal Services Officer. This position will work closely with an Animal Services Officer II and III to learn all aspects of the job for a minimum of six months and may be eligible to move into the higher level position after a year of experience.

Provides a list of needed or replacement equipment to Animal Services SupervisorSpecializes in addressing problems with the Animal Services' databaseSpecializes and provides CEU training opportunities for all Animal Services Officers and ensures the required 12 units are met and documented before the evaluation periodSpecializes and provides report writing reviews to Animal Services OfficersSpecializes and provides education to the public, both individually and in group settings, regarding county ordinances, state laws, and abatement of vectors to prevent the spread of zoonotic diseasesPerforms related duties as assignedMinimum Qualifications

ANIMAL SERVICES OFFICER IMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:A High School Diploma or GED and one year of work experience; OR, any equivalent combination of training, education, or experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

ANIMAL SERVICES OFFICER IIMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:One year of experience working in a regulatory field, an animal services program, or law enforcement; OR any equivalent combination of training, education, or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

ANIMAL SERVICES OFFICER IIIMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Two years of experience working in a regulatory field, an animal services program, or law enforcement; OR, any equivalent combination of training, education, or experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

All Positions:ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Must pass a background check, obtain an Arizona driver's license by date of hire, and maintain it throughout employment. The final job offer will be contingent upon a satisfactory background check and 5-year Arizona Motor Vehicle Report.Attend and successfully pass the National Animal Control Association's (NACA) Level I, II, and III training within the first year of employment.

Pre-exposure Rabies vaccines are required and provided through the County per Animal Management Policy 2018-04.

Preferred Qualifications : At least one year of experience working in a regulatory field, an animal services program, or law enforcement, experience interpreting and applying laws and ordinances and bilingual in Spanish.

If hired as an Animal Services Officer, you will be required to receive pre-exposure rabies vaccines. This is because officers frequently handle animals that may be rabid or exposed to rabies. Are there any reasons why you would not be able to receive these vaccinations?

Animal Services Officers work rotating shifts that change every eight weeks. They are also required to work holidays, weekends, and be on call after hours for emergency calls. Are you able to fulfill these requirements and if not, please explain why not?

Animal Services Officers frequently respond to requests from law enforcement to remove animals from accident scenes. For example, you might arrive at a scene where two vehicles have collided head-on and one of the drivers is deceased. There are aggressive or protective dogs guarding the body, how would you proceed in this situation?

Animal Services Officers are required to write clear, concise, and accurate reports. These reports may be used in legal proceedings, and all reports are public record.
