The City and Borough of Juneau's Parks & Rec Department is hiring!

As a lifeguard at Dimond Park Aquatic Center, under general supervision, you will be responsible to for ensuring the safety and enjoyable experience for guests using the facility by, monitoring swimmers, enforcing rules, responding to emergencies, providing care in an emergency, and maintaining the cleanliness of the facility.

We are looking professional, vigilant and attention orientated individuals who enjoys working with the public and understand the importance of aquatics in our community. Applicants must also be a proficient swimmer and able to work well as part of team of varying ages and experience levels, and be able to handle high paced and occasionally stressful situations.

WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
This position will primarily work at the Dimond Park Aquatic Center but may also be asked to work at the Augustus Brown Swimming Pool. Our facilities are open to the public seven days a week from 5am-8:30 pm Monday-Friday and 9am-6pm on weekends.
Typical Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of this position is, with a high degree of vigilance, to monitor swimmers and respond to situations where their safety may be compromised. This includes observing guests as they swim and monitoring their proficiency, maintaining a safe environment by enforcing rules, and providing care to guests who may become injured or encounter a physical ailment. During a typical rotation you may be on the pool deck for up to an hour.

Secondary responsibilities will include basic upkeep of the facility by maintaining a clean environment, which is free of trash and clutter, and during the winter you may be asked to participate in the removal of snow from the facilities entrance. You will also be responsible monitoring the safe operation aquatic attractions the safety of swimmers in the facility abiding safe operation rules.
Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Certified as American Red Cross Lifeguard or the equivalent, and First Aid and CPR certificates.

The equivalent would be a lifeguard certification from another licensing agency (Star Guard, Ellis and Associate, YMCA, American Lifeguard Association are the most common).

Minor Work Permit: No longer required for minors, however, all DOL regulations regarding minors working environment must be followed.
