Overview:

The Senior Portfolio Accountant is responsible for all aspects of accounting, AP and AR for commercial and residential properties. The Portfolio Accounting Manager works closely with the Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller and Regional Operations Managers to produce monthly financial statements and resolve property accounting issues. This position develops positive working relationships with client accounting contacts and key vendors. The Portfolio Accounting Manager reports to the Accounting Manager and has no supervisory responsibility.Responsibilities:Oversee all accounting and financial reporting functions for a portfolio of apartment buildings in the DC,Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia areaManage cash to avoid overdrafts and maintain sufficient working capitalEnsure that critical deadlines are met for mortgage payments, utilities and other key payables to avoid latefees and penaltiesEnsure that residential management fees are calculated in accordance with contractReview residential financial statements and investigate variancesOversee processing of month-end journal entries, reclasses and accrualsReview security deposit report, open invoice report, delinquency report, rent roll, to confirm that theybalance and tie sub-ledgers to GLReview journal entries prepared by staff for proper coding and accounting treatmentAnalyze balance sheet accounts and review reconciliations prepared by staffReview bank reconciliations and ensure timely resolution of reconciling itemsOversee cash receipts including timely deposits and verification of lockbox receiptsAssist in annual budget processOversee annual 1099 processOversee vendor set up and compliance with insurance certificate policiesMaintain property assignment list and notify corporate office of assignment changesPromote team work, cross training and a positive work environmentQualifications:

Candidate must have an undergraduate degree in Accounting or equivalent experience.Property management, accounting experience, and/or public accounting with real estate clientsYardi, Entrata or other strong accounting software skillsPublic accounting experience is a plusExperience with account reconciliation and financial statement analysis
